{"id":107086,"date":"2026-07-15T17:02:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T17:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/107086\/"},"modified":"2026-07-15T17:02:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T17:02:16","slug":"microsoft-patches-record-number-of-security-vulnerabilities-citing-its-use-of-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/107086\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft patches record number of security vulnerabilities, citing its use of AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Microsoft released a record number of security patches for Windows, Office, and other tech product lines this week, citing the use of AI to aid the discovery of code vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The technology and cloud giant issued patches for 570 security flaws on Tuesday as part of its monthly scheduled release of fixes, which security researchers have long dubbed \u201cPatch Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At least two of the vulnerabilities are classified as <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/25\/techcrunch-reference-guide-to-security-terminology\/#zero-day\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">zero-days<\/a>, meaning that they were exploited before Microsoft was made aware of them. One <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/msrc.microsoft.com\/update-guide\/en-US\/advisory\/CVE-2026-56155\" target=\"_blank\">bug<\/a> affecting Windows Server allows hackers to escalate their privileges from a limited user to a system administrator. Another bug affects the SharePoint file sharing server \u2014 the U.S. government\u2019s cybersecurity agency CISA has warned hackers were <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/news-events\/alerts\/2026\/07\/14\/cisa-adds-four-known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog\" target=\"_blank\">actively exploiting<\/a> the bug to compromise organizations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Krebs on Security first <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/krebsonsecurity.com\/2026\/07\/microsoft-patches-a-record-570-security-flaws\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> the news. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The huge patch update comes a week after <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.windows.com\/windowsexperience\/2026\/07\/09\/evolving-windows-vulnerability-management-to-meet-the-speed-of-ai-powered-discovery\/\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft said in a blog post<\/a> that it expected its usual batch of monthly security patches to be far higher in number than before. The company cited its use of AI to help its employees uncover previously undiscovered security bugs in its software.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs AI helps defenders discover more issues, customers will see a higher volume of security updates included in each security release,\u201d said Windows boss Pavan Davuluri.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As AI models become more advanced and focused on cybersecurity issues, security researchers are using them to uncover vulnerabilities that may have been dormant in software code for years, if not longer.
