(Photo Illustration by Thomas Fuller\/SOPA Images\/LightRocket via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Sopa Images | Lightrocket | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Japanese tech stocks tumbled on Friday as a fresh rout in U.S. semiconductor shares spread across Asia, underscoring growing worries about AI spending.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/9984.T-JP\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SoftBank<\/a> dropped 8.8%, while chip equipment maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/8035.T-JP\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tokyo Electron<\/a> lost 9% and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/6857.T-JP\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Advantest<\/a> slid 9.4%, tracking steep overnight losses on Wall Street. <\/p>\n<p>Japanese memory chipmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/285A.T-JP\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kioxia<\/a> plunged over 14% after a federal jury in Texas on Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/litigation\/kioxia-owes-viasat-229-million-infringing-flash-memory-patents-us-jury-says-2026-07-16\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ordered the firm to pay $229 million in damages<\/a> after finding it infringed a Viasat patent related to computer memory technology. <\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s markets were closed for a public holiday.
