NHL legend Claude Lemieux penned several \u201cheartfelt\u201d notes to family members just before he died by suicide<\/a>, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff\u2019s Office incident report obtained by The California Post on Friday.<\/p>\n

The document states that prior to his passing on May 28, Lemieux wrote multiple messages in his notes app and left a post-it on his phone with instructions for how to access them before he hanged himself at his family\u2019s home-design business in Lake Park, Fla.<\/p>\n

In his directions that were written in black marker, Lemieux wrote, \u201clook inside phone notes 1965,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n

When investigators gained access to the app, they stated they discovered \u201cmultiple notes that were individualized.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe notes were heartfelt in nature,\u201d officials said, \u201creflected sorrow for his decision, and were consistent with that of a suicide note.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the hours before his passing, Lemieux had been confronted by his wife<\/a>, Deborah, about a possible relapse following years of sobriety.<\/p>\n

When Lemieux confirmed his backslide, \u201cDeborah asked him to leave the residence,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n

Lemieux\u2019s son, Brendan, was made aware of his parents\u2019 conversation, and after learning his father\u2019s location had shifted to the family\u2019s business, he drove over to check on him, the report states.<\/p>\n

Brendan found Lemieux in the back of the building and dialed 911, according to the document.<\/p>\n

Along with the phone and accompanying sticky note, authorities said they located an open bag of \u201cbedtime gummies\u201d near Lemieux\u2019s body. However, officials claimed Lemieux\u2019s \u201ctoxicology report listed \u2018negative\u2019 for all analytes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lemieux played for several NHL teams from 1983 to 2009, including the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils. He won four Stanley Cups and one Conn Smythe Trophy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was 60 years old.<\/p>\n
