When OpenAI merged Chat, Work, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltrends.com\/computing\/openai-is-bringing-in-the-mighty-codex-tool-to-the-chatgpt-app-on-your-phone\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Codex<\/a> into one unified desktop app roughly a week ago, the experience came with more issues than intended, burying basic features like chat history and making it awkward to switch between modes. Now OpenAI has rolled out a batch of fixes based on feedback to make the app feel consistent regardless of which device you use.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Evening! We\u2019ve gotten lots of great feedback on the new ChatGPT desktop app (which we didn\u2019t get totally quite right on the first try), and as a result, we\u2019ve made some changes.<\/p>\n<p>1\/ ChatGPT conversation history and projects are now visible in the sidebar. Instead of hunting through different screens, you can quickly jump back into previous chats or ongoing work from a single place.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\" data-wp-class--hide=\"state.isContentHidden\" data-wp-class--show=\"state.isContentVisible\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-async--click=\"actions.showLightbox\" data-wp-on-async--load=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-async-window--resize=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/chatgpt-mode-switch-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"chatgpt-mode-switch\" class=\"wp-image-5991112\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\t\tOpenAI<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI has also enabled Chat and Work history syncing across the web, desktop, and mobile apps. That means your conversations stay up to date no matter which device you use. However, Local Tasks remain stored only on your computer and are not synchronized across devices.<\/p>\n<p>The desktop app also gets a dedicated switch for moving between Chat and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltrends.com\/cool-tech\/chatgpt-can-now-finish-what-you-started-and-thats-a-much-bigger-deal-than-it-sounds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Work mode<\/a>. The layout now matches the experience on the web and mobile, making it easier to move between personal conversations and work-related tasks without relearning the interface.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, OpenAI also rolled out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltrends.com\/computing\/chatgpts-new-search-tool-saves-you-from-digging-through-old-chats-files-and-images\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">major search upgrade that lets you find old chats, projects, documents, and images<\/a> from one place, alongside a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltrends.com\/computing\/chatgpt-will-now-remind-teens-to-take-breaks-and-give-parents-more-controls\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bunch of teen safety features and parental controls<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1200\" data-wp-class--hide=\"state.isContentHidden\" data-wp-class--show=\"state.isContentVisible\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-async--click=\"actions.showLightbox\" data-wp-on-async--load=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" data-wp-on-async-window--resize=\"callbacks.setButtonStyles\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/chatgpt-new-search.jpg\" alt=\"chatgpt-new-search\" class=\"wp-image-5990870\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\t\tOpenAI<\/p>\n<p>Why does this update matter?<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI says these changes are a direct response to user feedback after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitaltrends.com\/computing\/openai-wants-chatgpt-to-become-a-super-app-for-work-life-and-everything-in-between\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the redesigned ChatGPT desktop app<\/a> missed the mark.
