{"id":110189,"date":"2026-07-18T01:20:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T01:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/110189\/"},"modified":"2026-07-18T01:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T01:20:10","slug":"mets-among-teams-who-used-ai-loophole-with-dugout-ipads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/110189\/","title":{"rendered":"Mets among teams who used AI loophole with dugout iPads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mets were among the teams found to have <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/16\/sports\/mlb-cracks-down-on-dugout-ipads-with-artificial-intelligence-fears-growing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">exploited a loophole regarding the use of artificial intelligence<\/a> for in-game decisions during the first half of the season, sources told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Major League Baseball banned the practice beginning Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The crackdown was issued in a June 11 memo to teams but wasn\u2019t put in place until the day before the second half of the season began following the All-Star break.<\/p>\n<p>As first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7448900\/2026\/07\/16\/mlb-bans-ai-dugout-ipads\/?smid=url-share-ta&amp;source=athletic_user_shared_article_copylink&amp;smid=url-share-ta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported by The Athletic<\/a>, MLB found that some teams were using league-issued iPads in the dugout \u201cbeyond their originally intended purpose to include recommendations regarding substitutions, pitch calling, and other in-game decisions traditionally made by players and coaches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The memo, from MLB executive vice president of baseball operations Morgan Sword and obtained by The Post, was sent to general managers, assistant GMs and video coordinators.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40019414\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/bench-reacts-dugout-fence-ninth-125523655.jpg\" alt=\"The New York Mets bench reacts during the ninth inning against the Athletics.\" class=\"wp-image-40019414\"  \/>The Mets\u2019 dugout is pictured during an April 12 game.
