Brendan Lemieux, the son of NHL legend Claude Lemieux, told police his father relapsed into sex addiction prior to dying by suicide<\/a>, newly released body camera footage shows.<\/p>\n

Brendan told cops about the matter while being questioned by Palm Beach County Sheriff\u2019s Office investigators on May 28, just after he discovered his dad\u2019s death at their family\u2019s home-design business in Lake Park, Fla.<\/p>\n

\u201cLong story short,\u201d Brendan said in the video, which was obtained by The California Post on Tuesday, \u201cmy mom finds out that he\u2019s not sober anymore. And thats what triggered this tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the cop asked about Claude\u2019s possible alcohol consumption, Brendan explained, \u201cWhen I say sober, he has more issues with \u2014 his most sober thing is sex addiction versus alcohol. I don\u2019t even know if he\u2019s been drinking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brendan said Claude had been sober for over a decade, but about a year ago, he and his mom, Deborah, suspected he might have backslid.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve noticed changes in his behavior,\u201d Brendan said, \u201cand recently, it\u2019s spiraled completely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brendan said Claude had been \u201clashing out\u201d and \u201cnot being nice to people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mom called him out,\u201d Brendan said, \u201cand long story short, he confessed, and she just said, \u2018Get out.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Brendan said that conversation took place at around 10:30 p.m. on May 27. Hours later, he said he grew concerned about his father after noticing his location had changed to their family business, so he drove over to check on him.<\/p>\n

While there, he said he found his father deceased in the back of the building.<\/p>\n

A Palm Beach County Sheriff\u2019s Office incident report\u00a0stated Claude wrote several messages to his family<\/a> in his notes app and left a Post-it on his phone with instructions for how to access them before he hanged himself.<\/p>\n

Authorities stated in the report that the messages \u201cwere heartfelt in nature, reflected sorrow for his decision, and were consistent with that of a suicide note.\u201d<\/p>\n

Claude played for several teams during his 21-year NHL career, including the New Jersey Devils and the Montreal Canadiens. He won four Stanley Cups and earned one Conn Smythe Trophy as well.<\/p>\n

He was 60 years old when he died.<\/p>\n
