Claude VonStroke and Rebuke have finally finished a collaboration that sat dormant for years. \u2018I\u2019m Just Calling\u2018 is out now via Rebuke\u2019s own imprint, ERA, and the backstory behind it is more interesting than most collab rollouts you\u2019ll read about this year.<\/p>\n
The track started as an unfinished idea between the two producers before getting lost in the shuffle of old hard drives and half-baked demos. Claude stumbled back onto it while digging through folders ahead of a Panorama Bar gig, tested it out on the crowd, and got the kind of reaction that makes you want to finish what you started. From there, he got back in touch with Rebuke to close the loop.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started working on this track a couple years ago and then lost touch and forgot about it,\u201d Claude VonStroke says. \u201cThen I was digging around my folders prepping for Panorama Bar and found it again. When I played this the room erupted. So I reconnected with Reuben and we finished it.\u201c<\/p>\n
The track\u2019s already gotten a high-profile test run, too. Beltran played it during his set at EDC Las Vegas, well before the official release, giving it a first taste of dancefloor validation ahead of the drop.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s a full-circle element here worth noting. Claude VonStroke was the one who first brought Rebuke to the United States, booking him for a Dirtybird show at Space Miami during Miami Music Week back in 2019. Now, years later, they\u2019re releasing together on Rebuke\u2019s own label.<\/p>\n
\u201cBarclay was the first person to bring me to the USA when he booked me for his Dirtybird show at Space Miami MMW in 2019,\u201d Rebuke says. \u201cHis career and ability to build communities always inspired me and has been something I often reference in my own career. I was super excited to do this collaboration, and releasing it on my own label, ERA, is a dream.\u201c<\/p>\n
Part of a Bigger Creative Stretch for Claude<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m Just Calling\u2019 lands during one of the more prolific runs of Claude VonStroke\u2019s career. Earlier this year he released Wrong Number, his first full-length album since returning to the Claude VonStroke project, and by most accounts his strongest streaming release to date. The record leaned into intimate club sounds and quirky, minimal grooves rather than festival-ready anthems, with vocal contributions from his own kids, Jasper and Ella Crenshaw, giving it a distinctly homemade feel.<\/p>\n
That same approach carried over into the Wrong Number Open Air series, a run of free, no-frills outdoor parties Claude has been throwing in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Denver this summer. No VIP sections, no ticket paywalls beyond an RSVP text line, just sound systems, open air, and people who showed up to dance. Jasper Crenshaw has been opening those sets as well, keeping the family connection going live.<\/p>\n
Claude VonStroke has been a fixture of underground house music for more than two decades now, largely through his Dirtybird label, which helped define a specific strain of bass-inflected, groove-heavy house through the 2010s. Rebuke, for his part, has built ERA into a platform for his own brand of peak-time techno and house, and landing a Claude VonStroke collaboration on his own imprint is a notable moment for the label.<\/p>\n
