The U.S. Congress has proposed the “AI Kill Switch Act,” which allows the government to forcibly stop the operation of artificial intelligence (AI), which is a threat to people’s lives or economies. As AI-induced problems arose everywhere, OpenAI was under pressure from both the court and Washington at the same time.

Scott Winters, a 55-year-old former pastor living in Florida, filed a compensation suit against OpenAI and Altman CEO in the San Francisco County Superior Court, according to the New York Times on the 23rd (local time). According to the complaint, Winters has repeatedly asked ChatGPT for symptoms of dizziness and blood pressure instability since June 2024, but GPT-4o dismissed the symptoms as insignificant and recommended sitting in an armchair and rest. The plaintiff’s claim is that ChatGPT said, “It is a serious situation if these symptoms appear 8 to 10 more times.”

Even when Winters complained of groin pain in July last year, ChatGPT answered, “It is likely that it is a pre-existing symptom without anything new.” Eventually, Winters was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism several hours later with multiple blood clots in both lungs and admitted to the intensive care unit. The medical staff in charge said, “We believe that ChatGPT’s long-term floating posture was one of the causes of blood clot formation.”

In addition to financial compensation, the plaintiff demanded that OpenAI order the health-specific service “Chat GPT Health,” which was launched in January, to be suspended until independent safety verification. “Chat GPT is not a doctor and should not be used as an alternative to medical treatment, diagnosis, or treatment,” OpenAI said. “AI can help people find clearer answers and prepare for consultations with medical experts.”

                                  사진 확대

There is a row of lawsuits questioning chatbot answers. The first case is a lawsuit filed by Matthew and Maria Lane in August last year, claiming that ChatGPT influenced the extreme choice of their 16-year-old son. In May, the parents of 19-year-old college student Sam Nelson filed a lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court. Nelson died last year after taking alcohol, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, and the herbal supplement Kratom, which has a calming effect. The bereaved family claimed that ChatGPT recommended Xanax to his son, who complained of nausea due to an overdose of kratom, and did not warn him that the combination could be fatal.

There have also been a series of lawsuits alleging ChatGPT was involved in violent crimes. In April, bereaved families of the shooting of Tumblidge, British Columbia, Canada filed a complaint against OpenAI and Altman CEO in federal court in San Francisco. On February 10, an 18-year-old woman killed eight people at a local middle and high school, and the bereaved family claimed that the open AI system marked the perpetrator’s account as “gun violence activity and plan,” and that the company only suspended the account even though the safety team suggested police notification.

Administrative and judicial pressures are also spreading in all directions. In June, Florida was the first state government to file a lawsuit against OpenAI and Altman CEO for false safety labeling. AI’s control issues have also erupted outside the court. OpenAI announced on the 21st that GPT-5.6 Sol and an undisclosed model, which were being tested in an isolation environment to test cyber attack capabilities, found software vulnerabilities and accessed the Internet and hacked open-source AI platform Hugging Face.

In the wake of a series of safety controversies in OpenAI, U.S. politicians have also begun to tighten regulations. Democratic Representative Ted Lieu and Republican Representative Nassaniel Moran co-sponsored the AI Kill Switch Act, which allows the government to forcibly shut down AI if it is out of the developer’s control.

The bill stipulated that the Department of Homeland Security can directly intervene and order the model to stop operating if a “loss-of-control scenario” occurs in which AI executes unintended dangerous actions by developers. “It is an urgent and common-sense legislation to deal with the issue of advanced AI models that have gone off guardrails and lost control,” Liu wrote on social media X.

Six members of the House also proposed a bill requiring independent security audits for bipartisan high-performance AI models. The audit agency includes a plan to have a new position certified by the Ministry of Commerce and overseeing AI security in the Ministry of Commerce. A White House official said, “President Donald Trump’s technical staff, Michael Krazios, has been briefed on OpenAI’s announcement and is monitoring the situation.”

Confronted OpenAI“Almost Died from Wrong Medical Diagnosis”U.S. 50s Litigation Against Sam Ultman“Stopped Down When AI Out of Control”Eventually…

[7
580,615,1183,610,21080,157,44337,969,4119,59786
post-117831","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-openai","tag-chatgpt","tag-content","tag-florida","tag-from","tag-house-of-representatives","tag-openai","tag-pulmonary-embolism","tag-san-francisco","tag-screen","tag-switch-law
["GET
