An American who believed in ChatGPT advice and delayed hospital checkups and went through a lot of trouble due to pulmonary embolism has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The U.S. Congress has proposed the “AI Kill Switch Act,” which allows the government to forcibly stop the operation of artificial intelligence (AI), which is a threat to people’s lives or economies. Even when Winters complained of groin pain in July last year, ChatGPT answered, “It is likely that it is a pre-existing symptom without anything new.” Eventually, Winters was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism several hours later with multiple blood clots in both lungs and admitted to the intensive care unit. The medical staff in charge said, “We believe that ChatGPT’s long-term floating posture was one of the causes of blood clot formation.”<\/p>\n
In addition to financial compensation, the plaintiff demanded that OpenAI order the health-specific service “Chat GPT Health,” which was launched in January, to be suspended until independent safety verification. “Chat GPT is not a doctor and should not be used as an alternative to medical treatment, diagnosis, or treatment,” OpenAI said. “AI can help people find clearer answers and prepare for consultations with medical experts.”<\/p>\n

There is a row of lawsuits questioning chatbot answers. The first case is a lawsuit filed by Matthew and Maria Lane in August last year, claiming that ChatGPT influenced the extreme choice of their 16-year-old son. In May, the parents of 19-year-old college student Sam Nelson filed a lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court.
