Note: Japanese text in the original image from press release has been translated into English by our editorial team.
Dai Nippon Printing Co.

Dai Nippon Printing Co. on July 24 launched a digital identity management function for AI agents on its CATRINA decentralized ID management platform, expanding the service from human users to AI-based proxy purchasing, according to a company statement. The function became available on July 24, 2026.

The new function is designed to ensure that only AI agents authorized by users can conduct transactions based on those users’ intent and permissions when making purchases on online shopping sites and other digital services. DNP has offered CATRINA since 2024 as a platform to manage personal identity verification information, consent and authority for online transactions.

DNP conducted a joint proof-of-concept with Copenhagen-based Queue-it ApS as part of the expansion. In a test environment simulating heavy access to products and services, the companies confirmed that legitimate AI agents could be identified and unauthorized AI agents could be prevented from making proxy purchases.

CATRINA uses Verifiable Credentials, a tamper-resistant digital certificate technology based on a data model proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium, or W3C. By extending those identity verification and authority management functions to AI agents, users can centrally manage who an agent represents and the scope of its permissions with the same level of rigor applied to human users.

The service also reflects the concepts behind Agent Payments Protocol, or AP2, a payment specification for AI agents being discussed by companies including Google, to support agent-based proxy purchasing, the company said.

DNP focused on e-commerce use cases involving congested sites, including purchasing procedures and virtual queues, as AI agents are increasingly expected to search for, compare and buy products on behalf of users in what the industry refers to as agentic commerce. Queue-it provides online waiting room technology used to manage fair access when traffic surges.

Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has issued guidelines for AI businesses that address the need to prevent misuse and maintain safe, reliable transaction environments as autonomous AI activity becomes more widespread. Against that backdrop, verifying on whose behalf an AI agent acts and under what authority has emerged as a practical issue for digital transactions.

DNP plans to market the AI agent-compatible CATRINA function to e-commerce operators and financial institutions and aims for cumulative adoption by 10 companies by fiscal 2027, the company said. It is also considering broader deployment beyond e-commerce into services such as finance, travel and administrative procedures, where AI agents may act on behalf of users.

KEY POINTSDNP launches CATRINA function for AI agent identity management in proxy purchasesQueue-it joint test verifies only authorized…

[6
673,405,7537,59880,59878,16251,59879,59881,59882
post-118206","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-agentic-ai","tag-agentic-commerce","tag-ai-agents","tag-artificial-intelligence-agents","tag-catrina","tag-dai-nippon-printing","tag-digital-identity","tag-dnp","tag-queue-it","tag-verifiable-credentials
["GET
