<\/p>\nSAN FRANCISCO\u2014 AI startup Skyfall AI plans to test one of the industry’s boldest ideas by purchasing a small software-as-a-service or e-commerce company for up to $1 million and attempting to run it with artificial intelligence serving as the chief executive officer, according to Forbes.<\/p>\n
Rather than developing another AI tool for a specific business function, the company said it wants to determine whether AI can autonomously manage an entire enterprise from end to end.<\/p>\n

“We want to democratize the power of a CEO to all the small businesses around the world, rather than building another marketing or sales agent,” Sam Pasupalak, Skyfall’s cofounder and CEO, told Forbes. “If you want a truly autonomous business, you have to buy a business and operate the whole thing end to end. Unless you run a business with minimal human intervention, you’ll never know whether an autonomous enterprise is actually possible.”<\/p>\n
According to Forbes, the AI system would oversee pricing, marketing, customer support, finance and operations while aiming to double the company’s revenue within six months and publicly document both its successes and failures.<\/p>\n
Pasupalak told Forbes that most enterprise AI developers are pursuing too narrow a vision.<\/p>\n
“A lot of startups are building marketing agents or sales agents, which in our belief is very narrow AI implementation \u2014 rather than tackling the broader challenge of organizational decision-making,” he said.<\/p>\n
The founders argue that today’s large language models perform well in familiar business situations but struggle to adapt as markets, competitors and customer behavior evolve.<\/p>\n
According to Forbes, Skyfall’s founders previously built AI startup Maluuba, which was acquired by Microsoft for approximately $160 million in 2017. They have now reunited to develop what they call “Enterprise World Models,” AI systems designed to simulate how decisions affect an entire business over time rather than responding only to individual prompts.<\/p>\n
The company told Forbes it believes testing the technology inside a real operating business is essential because simulations cannot fully replicate actual customers, competitors and market conditions.<\/p>\n
“We found that you’ll always be limited by the gap between simulation and the real world,” cofounder and CTO Kaheer Suleman said. “The only way to solve that is to actually have real data. There’s no way around that if you want to solve the sim-to-real problem.”<\/p>\n
Even if the experiment succeeds, the founders do not envision AI completely replacing human leadership.<\/p>\n
“More than half of my time goes into operations \u2014 meetings, budgeting, coordinating teams, campaigns. Imagine if AI handled all those operational tasks. Then I could spend far more time on strategy,” Pasupalak told Forbes. “When it comes to motivating employees and building relationships with people, that’s still very difficult for AI to replicate.”<\/p>\n
Suleman added that, while AI may eventually handle much of a company’s operational workload, “Trust is still important, and you probably don’t want to relinquish actual responsibility to an AI. Humans should always remain responsible in some capacity.”<\/p>\n
