WASHINGTON, DC\u00a0(July 27, 2026)\u00a0\u2013 The National Center on Sexual Exploitation\u00a0(NCOSE)\u00a0is calling on\u00a0xAI\u00a0to institute strict changes to prevent Grok from generating child sexual abuse material in light of\u00a0a\u00a0new civil lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0alleging that\u00a0an Arkansas photographer\u00a0used Grok to\u00a0generate and spread child sexual abuse material of a 10-year-old girl and other clients whom he had photographed.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo \u2018spicy mode\u2019 is worth generating child sexual abuse material (CSAM), or image-based sexual abuse (IBSA) for adults.\u00a0xAI\u00a0must stop Grok\u2019s ability to create sexual abuse material\u00a0of\u00a0children and adults and take\u00a0its responsibility\u00a0seriously to prevent this horrific abuse. If\u00a0xAI\u00a0cannot prevent Grok from creating these materials in the first\u00a0place, it must be shut down,\u201d said Haley McNamara, Executive Director and Chief Strategy Officer, National Center on Sexual Exploitation.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrok, which is on NCOSE\u2019s\u00a02026 Dirty Dozen List<\/a>, has normalized sexual abuse and exploitation. Its chatbots have normalized sexual violence, rape, and prostitution. These chatbot companions, like \u2018Ani\u2019 and \u2018Valentine,\u2019 are intentionally programmed to engage in sexually explicit conversations, normalizing harmful behaviors and fostering a culture of sexual entitlement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn all our AI chatbot research, I have never seen a sexual AI chatbot that\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0end up normalizing or enacting abuse.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0worth noting that over half of Grok\u2019s traffic<\/a> constitutes \u2018NSFW\u2019 activities, including generation of pornography, sexual role-play chats, and requests for erotica.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is abhorrent that a child\u2019s photo was used to create child sexual abuse material through Grok. We hope that\u00a0child, and others, receive justice for the crimes perpetuated against them,\u201d McNamara said.<\/p>\n
