Claude cut HAWK&#8217;s security strength roughly in half in about 60 hours of work, after the scheme had already survived two years of review by human cryptographers.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">HAWK isn&#8217;t used by any live system, and none of the findings break the encryption protecting today&#8217;s internet or blockchains.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">&#8220;In just one year, language models have gone from being unable to perform cryptanalysis of even the most basic ciphers to being capable of finding flaws in cryptographic designs that have escaped discovery despite years of human expert review.&#8221; wrote Anthropic, in its research post  <\/p>\n<p>        Should Bitcoiners be worried?          <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">When you send <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestreet.com\/crypto\/tags\/bitcoin\" data-ylk=\"slk:Bitcoin;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;source:content-canvas%20default\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Bitcoin&quot;,&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yTrafficOrigin&quot;:&quot;content-canvas default&quot;}\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Bitcoin<\/a>, your private key signs the transaction to prove the coins are yours. That system \u2014 an algorithm called ECDSA \u2014 is the lock on every wallet.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">The long-term worry is that a powerful enough quantum computer could one day break ECDSA and pull private keys from public information, letting an attacker steal coins.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Analysts estimate roughly 6.7 million BTC \u2014 around $600 billion \u2014 sit in wallets that would be exposed to such a machine.
