Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is among the lawmakers scheduled to meet with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang this week to discuss several artificial intelligence policy domains.<\/p>\n
A source familiar with the meeting confirmed to Nextgov\/FCW that Huang and Cruz are set to meet at some point over the course of this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
An NVIDIA spokesperson told Nextgov\/FCW in a statement on Tuesday that Huang will be discussing NVIDIA\u2019s work \u201cto strengthen the country\u2019s chip supply chain by producing $500B in American technology over four years and American leadership in AI, including leading in open source.\u201d<\/p>\n
NVIDIA declined to comment on the length of Huang’s time in D.C. and other meeting details.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Politico first reported<\/a> Huang\u2019s presence in D.C. this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n The chipmaker has been leading calls to continue supporting access to open-source AI models, launching a new security alliance<\/a> on Monday with over 30 other companies dedicated to advancing open-source technologies for cybersecurity.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cOpen models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty,\u201d Huang said in a post on X<\/a> last Friday. \u201cThe world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.\u201d<\/p>\n As chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Cruz has been a major player in Congress\u2019s battle to craft and pass comprehensive AI legislation. He introduced the SANDBOX Act<\/a>\u00a0in September 2025, which is broadly characterized by a light-touch regulatory approach to AI writ large.\u00a0<\/p>\n
