Good morning. Checkr<\/a>, used by businesses for an AI-powered background check service, has a new CFO ready to double down on AI in finance\u2014and he built an app during onboarding.<\/p>\n

Tim Yarbrough joined as finance chief in March, succeeding Naeem Ishaq. He brings more than 20 years of experience, including over a decade at ZipRecruiter, most recently as CFO. He previously led financial planning and strategy at Convertro Inc. and held strategic finance roles at Qualcomm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTim\u2019s experience scaling a company through a similar stage of growth is exactly what we need,\u201d Daniel Yanisse, co-founder and CEO of Checkr, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The appointment comes as Checkr pushes beyond its core background-check business. Founded in 2014, the company serves more than 130,000 businesses and is valued at $5 billion. In 2025, gross revenue exceeded $800 million, and net revenue (excluding government fees) surpassed $500 million.<\/p>\n

Asked about a potential IPO, Yarbrough was measured. \u201cRight now, my focus is on helping to build Checkr into the defining multi-product data platform for trust-based decisions,\u201d he said. The company is pursuing a market exceeding $40 billion across identity, income, and tenant verification, and \u201cthat is where my energy is going,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

At Checkr, AI starts on day one<\/p>\n

A key draw for Yarbrough was Yanisse\u2019s belief that AI should be used by every employee. Why this matters: \u201cIf leadership hasn\u2019t communicated clear priorities and created dedicated space to get people up to speed, employees are left guessing, or worse, using it in secret because they don\u2019t know if it\u2019s even allowed,\u201d Yarbrough said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing that struck me in my first weeks at Checkr: during onboarding, you actually build an app,\u201d he said. \u201cNot a presentation about AI, not a policy document\u2014you build something. That\u2019s when I knew this place was serious about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Yarbrough, the appeal wasn\u2019t just market position or focus on fairness and trust. It was the impact of the company\u2019s verifications. \u201cThe decisions Checkr powers aren\u2019t just checking a person\u2019s background; they are verifications that impact critical moments of people\u2019s lives,\u201d he said. Expanding into identity, mortgage, and tenant verification is \u201cunlike anything I\u2019ve seen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

AI sits at the center of Checkr\u2019s business. And it\u2019s prepared to take on the threat landscape. \u201cAs bad actors get more sophisticated, so do we, and that\u2019s an area where we\u2019ll keep investing,\u201d Yarbrough, said.<\/p>\n

From weeks to hours: AI in finance<\/p>\n

Within finance, AI has already changed how he approaches financial modeling and scenario planning. \u201cWhat used to take weeks can now happen in hours,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd the signals you surface are ones you might have missed entirely in a traditional process.\u201d The goal isn\u2019t automation alone, but sharper teams focused on judgment.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor example, we built a customizable tool that gives each department leader their specific operating expense budget and open headcount,\u201d Yarbrough said. \u201cThey now know how they are trending against their budget without involving their partner in finance.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his approach to the role: \u201cI fundamentally see myself as an operator of the business who just happens to speak finance fluently,\u201d Yarbrough said.<\/p>\n

Big Deal<\/p>\n

“Rising AI Adoption Spurs Workforce Changes<\/a>” is a report by Gallup that finds half of employed American adults say they use AI in their role at least a few times a year, up from 46% last quarter. In addition, 13% of employees now say they use AI daily and 28% report they use it a few times a week or more.<\/p>\n

Another finding is that 41% of employees say their organization has integrated AI technology or tools to improve organizational practices, up three points from the previous quarter. Organizational AI adoption rates are also increasing, though at a slower pace.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The findings are based on a survey of 23,717 U.S. employees.\u00a0<\/p>\n
