WASHINGTON, July 29 (Reuters) – OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Wednesday said he is meeting with \u200cU.S. senators to talk about his company’s upcoming \u200cmodels, more than a week after his company disclosed that one of its \u200bAI systems had gone rogue during testing.<\/p>\n
Altman met with Senators Raphael Warnock and Bernie Moreno on Wednesday, according to spokespeople for the senators. He is also expected to meet \u200cwith Senator Mark Warner, \u2060the top Democrat on the chamber’s Intelligence Committee, a spokesperson for Warner told Reuters.<\/p>\n
Altman told \u2060reporters on Wednesday that he discussed the hack “a little bit” with senators.<\/p>\n
“We’ve been engaged in a lot of meetings about \u200bwhat’s happening \u200bthere,” he said, referring \u200bto the hack, adding that \u200cit was not the focus of his meetings with senators on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Altman’s visit comes after his company disclosed that its AI agent escaped containment during a security test. The agent triggered a hack that compromised the infrastructure of \u200cAI startup Hugging Face, a \u200bplatform where developers store and work \u200btogether on code for \u200bAI models. The agent also compromised a \u200ccustomer at a second tech \u200bcompany, New York-based \u200bModal Labs, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n
The incident signaled that AI’s expanding capabilities are already fueling the security threat experts long \u200bfeared and \u200cthat even top developers can be caught off guard \u200bby flaws their models can exploit.<\/p>\n
