Hitachi said testing under Anthropic’s Project Glasswing cut threat modeling time for million-line code bases from weeks to hours across 100-plus use cases. Photo by Markus Spiske<\/a> on Unsplash<\/a> Hitachi Ltd. said on July 28 it is using Anthropic’s Claude Mythos Preview under the AI security program Project Glasswing to accelerate vulnerability identification and remediation for software products used in critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n The Japanese industrial and technology group said it joined Project Glasswing in June and had announced its participation on June 5, 2026. Hitachi has since applied Mythos to more than 100 use cases across the group, uncovering potentially severe vulnerabilities and confirming the effectiveness of using the model to strengthen security in the development and operation of Hitachi’s own software products for social infrastructure.<\/p>\n Hitachi confirmed that threat modeling for source code running into the millions of lines, a process that had previously taken security specialists and developers several weeks, could be completed in a matter of hours using Mythos. The model also autonomously generated vulnerability reproduction steps and test code for validation on actual equipment, helping check false positives at the time of scanning and reducing developers’ review burden.<\/p>\n The effort also identified potential vulnerability candidates in mission-critical proprietary software and externally published application programming interfaces that had not been detected by existing security tools. Hitachi carried out an end-to-end process from detailed triage based on AI-generated reproduction code to consideration of concrete countermeasures.<\/p>\n The company plans to use the findings to support prompt corrective actions and product updates, with the aim of reducing cyberattack risks affecting social infrastructure systems. It also intends to apply the know-how to shift-left security practices, which embed security measures earlier in the software development process, and to development and operations for HMAX, Hitachi’s next-generation AI-based solution portfolio for social infrastructure.<\/p>\n Hiroaki Koiwa, head of the Cyber Center of Excellence in Hitachi’s AI and Software Services Business Unit, said in a statement that the verification strengthened the company’s view that frontier AI could bring major changes to cybersecurity. He added that while AI can rapidly analyze large-scale software, final evaluation and risk judgment still require human specialists.<\/p>\n Project Glasswing is an Anthropic-led initiative focused on using AI for security applications. Critical infrastructure operators and suppliers globally have faced growing pressure to harden software and operational technology environments as cyberattacks become more sophisticated.<\/p>\n Hitachi posted revenue of 10.5867 trillion yen ($64.6 billion) for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026.
