\n\tAndrew Garfield<\/a>, who stars as Sam Altman<\/a> in Luca Guadagnino\u2019s much-buzzed-about OpenAI<\/a> film Artificial, is speaking out for the first time about the controversy that has surrounded the project in recent months.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the New York premiere of his new movie The Magic Faraway Tree, Garfield told The Hollywood Reporter, \u201cThis business is in an interesting place and I\u2019m fascinated by how things work. I\u2019m really grateful to Amazon for making the film with us and I\u2019m also really grateful to Amazon for helping it find a new home. And I think Neon\u2019s a really, really exciting home for it. I think it\u2019s a really good fit and I\u2019m really excited to release it with them,\u201d calling Neon, \u201ca daring studio doing daring films so I\u2019m very, very excited to be partnering with them on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tArtificial went on quite a ride earlier this summer, when Amazon MGM Studios suddenly announced it was\u00a0dropping the feature<\/a>\u00a0just months after Amazon entered into a $50 billion investment with OpenAI.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe have the utmost respect and admiration for Luca Guadagnino as an award-winning filmmaker \u2014 not to mention a longstanding relationship that we hope to continue,\u201d a spokesperson for Amazon told\u00a0THR in June. \u201cWe believe that\u00a0Artificial\u00a0will be better served if it were released by a different studio and are working closely with the filmmaking team to find the film a new home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter several weeks of speculation on if the movie would ever see the light of day, Neon stepped in<\/a> to acquire the film. The move came after studios like Warner Bros., Netflix and Focus passed on it, as\u00a0sources told\u00a0THR\u00a0that studios<\/a>\u00a0were reluctant to pick up the film for a variety of reasons, including political concerns.<\/p>\n

\n\tArtificial\u00a0has been described as a\u00a0Social Network-esque story, following Garfield as Altman in the tumultuous period at\u00a0OpenAI\u00a0in 2023 that saw him fired and rehired in a matter of days. The supporting cast includes\u00a0Anora\u00a0breakout Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, an OpenAI co-founder who led the movement to get rid of Altman, Monica Barbaro as chief technology officer Mira Murati, and Ike Barinholtz as Tesla and SpaceX founder\u00a0Elon Musk<\/a>.
