OpenAI is working on a suite of new AI-powered devices for ChatGPT<\/a>, according to company president Greg Brockman.<\/p>\n

The new products will be voice-first, aimed at moving beyond the constraints of typing on a screen in favour of more natural, conversational interactions with artificial intelligence<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re building a family of devices,\u201d Mr Brockman said on the New Things with Joanna Stern podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No specific details were given, though Mr Brockman claimed that they would be \u201cbuilt for the AI era\u201d and be \u201cmaximally useful… just something that people really want in their personal and work lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

OpenAI launched its first hardware product earlier this month, unveiling a $230 miniature keyboard<\/a> designed for users of the company\u2019s Codex tool.<\/p>\n

A more consumer-friendly gadget is expected to be unveiled later this year, which is designed to serve as a \u201chuman-like\u201d companion<\/a> for everyday ChatGPT users.<\/p>\n

OpenAI<\/a> CEO Sam Altman has previously described it as a \u201cthird core device\u201d that will be \u201ccapable of being fully aware of a user\u2019s surroundings and life, will be unobtrusive, able to rest in one\u2019s pocket or on one\u2019s desk.\u201d <\/p>\n

Developed in collaboration with Jony Ive, who led the design of the original iPhone, the device is rumoured to be screenless and fitted with a camera and other sensors.<\/p>\n

The ChatGPT creator is currently caught up in a high-profile lawsuit brought about by Apple, with the iPhone maker claiming that OpenAI stole trade secrets in order to design its new products.<\/p>\n

Two of the defendants in the case are former Apple employees now working for OpenAI, who are accused of emailing themselves internal information from their previous company.<\/p>\n

OpenAI has denied the accusations, claiming it is \u201cnot aware of any evidence\u201d that the lawsuit has merit.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe in fair competition and allowing people the freedom to work wherever they choose, and we\u2019re focused on building innovative technology that empowers people everywhere,\u201d the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n
