Google Earth is most-likely the easiest way to view the world as it is today or in the past, but now you can reimagine it in any way you want. Google just added Nano Banana 2 image generations directly into Google Earth on the web, live globally today.<\/p>\n
As revealed in the official Google Earth Blog<\/a>, users can now zoom into any area on Google Earth, tap a button and create new images based on the location in view, such as historical visualizations, infographics, real-estate plans or other fun creations based on real-world data.<\/p>\n Examples include visualizing Pompeii\u2019s famous ruins as a busy, populated city prior to Vesuvius\u2019 cataclysmic 79AD eruption, or turning the Statue of Liberty into an illustrated infographic annotated with key facts. After generating your picture, you can click \u201cRefine Image\u201d to perfect it before optionally saving it to your project. Google also suggests using the feature to visualize potential real estate projects or just fun, reimaginings of favorite locations. However, I asked it to generate an image of Venice Italy with water levels as predicted for the year 2226 and the results weren\u2019t pretty – although it didn\u2019t cite its information sources.<\/p>\n How Google Earth\u2019s AI Upgrade Works<\/p>\n This idea isn\u2019t new, Google Earth was one of the first tools users used to demonstrate<\/a> the multi-modal capabilities<\/a> of the original Nano Banana model. The model doesn\u2019t simply re-draw images, it\u2019s able to draw from multiple sources of information to help generate its output. The infographic above is a great example of how the model retrieves background information about the Statue Of Liberty in order to complete its annotations. Now with Nano Banana available directly from inside Google Earth, users no longer have to copy and paste images into a Gemini chat session to generate their images.<\/p>\n Quirks And Current Platform Limitations<\/p>\n There are a few quirks at launch, notably that you can\u2019t adjust your image view once you\u2019ve started writing your prompt. You have to quit your edit, reposition the image and start again. There are daily limits on the number of generations available and each image can take up to two minutes to generate.<\/p>\n Google AI subscribers may be surprised to discover that they can only generate a few Nano Banana images per day inside Google Earth. This is because Google Earth operates under its own separate subscription tiers, independent of any regular Google One plan.<\/p>\n However, the biggest catch, for now, is that if you\u2019re looking for Nano Banana 2 in your Google Earth app, you won\u2019t find it, as the feature is launching initially only for Google Earth on the web.
