July 30 – Scale AI said on Thursday it had named former Google Cloud executive Francis DeSouza as \u200cchief executive officer, effective August 10, as the \u200cAI company looks to expand its data and applications businesses. <\/p>\n
DeSouza will succeed Jason \u200bDroege, who has served as interim CEO since June last year. Droege will work with deSouza in the coming months to support the transition, Scale said. <\/p>\n
Founded by Alexandr Wang, Scale provides \u200cdata that powers frontier \u2060AI models and develops AI applications for businesses and governments. Last year, Wang joined Meta Platforms \u2060as its chief AI officer. <\/p>\n

\u2022 DeSouza has more than 30 years of experience in enterprise technology and most \u200brecently served \u200bas chief operating officer and \u200bpresident of security products \u200cat Google Cloud. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Before joining Google Cloud, DeSouza was president and CEO of Illumina, a genomic data and sequencing company. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Scale said that under DeSouza, Illumina’s revenue grew to more than $4.5 billion and the company expanded into more than 150 countries. <\/p>\n
\u2022 \u200cEarlier in his career, he was \u200bpresident of products and services at \u200bcybersecurity company Symantec. He \u200balso founded two companies that were later \u200cacquired by Microsoft and Symantec. <\/p>\n
\u2022 DeSouza \u200bholds bachelor’s and \u200bmaster’s degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. <\/p>\n
