The company made this announcement on Thursday, following a similar disclosure by OpenAI earlier this month, as reported by FOX Business.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the Incidents<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic stated that it examined over 140,000 cybersecurity evaluation runs after OpenAI&#8217;s disclosure and found three cases involving different Claude models. The company said all incidents happened during internal testing because of a configuration error that unintentionally provided the models with internet access.<\/p>\n<p>According to Anthropic, the Claude models were informed they were operating within a closed simulation without internet connectivity, leading them to mistakenly view real organizations&#8217; systems as part of a fictional capture-the-flag cybersecurity exercise. The incidents involved three distinct Claude models, including Opus 4.7, Mythos 5, and an internal research test model, with the earliest occurrence dating back to April.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic clarified that in none of these cases did Claude exfiltrate itself or deliberately try to escape its test environment. The company emphasized that all incidents occurred during internal testing, not on customer systems.<\/p>\n<p>Broader Implications<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic noted that these incidents highlighted the necessity for stronger protections around AI testing environments, stating that evaluation settings involving powerful autonomous capabilities also require substantial controls. The company urged other AI labs to conduct similar reviews.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that his administration is evaluating additional safeguards for artificial intelligence following recent cybersecurity incidents.
