As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/boards-policy-regulation\/meta-start-capturing-employee-mouse-movements-keystrokes-ai-training-data-2026-04-21\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a>, Meta is installing a tool it calls Model Capability Initiative (MCI) on US-based employees\u2019 computers that runs in work-related apps and websites, recording mouse movements, clicks, keystrokes, and occasional screenshots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The data from this tool will be used to train the company\u2019s AI models to get better at interacting with computers the way humans do, including automating work tasks like those Meta\u2019s employees perform on the job. According to Reuters, the data from MCI won\u2019t be \u201cused for performance assessments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cIf we\u2019re building agents to help people complete everyday tasks using computers, our models need real examples of how people actually use them \u2014 things like mouse movements, clicking buttons, and navigating dropdown menus,\u201d Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton said in a statement to The Verge. \u201cTo help, we\u2019re launching an internal tool that will capture these kinds of inputs on certain applications to help us train our models. There are safeguards in place to protect sensitive content, and the data is not used for any other purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">An internal memo from Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth shared with employees on Monday announced plans to increase internal data collection, including with MCI, for Meta\u2019s Agent Transformation Accelerator (ATA). Bosworth stated that, \u201cThe vision we are building towards is \u200bone where our agents primarily do the work and our role is to direct, review and help them improve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">According to Alex Heath\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/sources.news\/p\/metamates-become-training-data\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sources<\/a>, Meta has experienced \u201cintense internal backlash\u201d over MCI, with one employee replying to the announcement memo saying, \u201cThis makes me super uncomfortable.
