But <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/nvidia\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/nvidia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nvidia<\/a> CEO Jensen Huang thinks you should worry less about the robots and more about your coworker, the one quietly \u201ctokenmaxxing,\u201d or using AI to do in minutes what takes you hours.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tofBqR5N1RI\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tofBqR5N1RI\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview<\/a> with former national security advisor H.R. McMaster at the Stanford Graduate School of Business alongside Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), Huang said AI won\u2019t exactly replace you. Instead, it\u2019s possible you\u2019ll be replaced by the worker who\u2019s boosted their productivity by using AI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unlikely most people will lose a job to AI,\u201d Huang said in the interview published last week. \u201cIt is most likely that most people will lose their job to somebody who uses AI. And so, we have to make sure that everybody uses AI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement is a break from what other business leaders have warned about the technology. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/05\/28\/anthropic-ceo-warning-ai-job-loss\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/05\/28\/anthropic-ceo-warning-ai-job-loss\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> the technology will wipe out half of all entry-level white collar workers. <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/microsoft\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/microsoft\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Microsoft<\/a> AI chief Mustafa Suleyman has said the same, and <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/02\/13\/when-will-ai-kill-white-collar-office-jobs-18-months-microsoft-mustafa-suleyman\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/02\/13\/when-will-ai-kill-white-collar-office-jobs-18-months-microsoft-mustafa-suleyman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gave it about 18 months<\/a> until that becomes a reality.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, there\u2019s a growing discontent among workers about AI adoption. <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/kpmg\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/kpmg\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">KPMG<\/a> found in November four in 10 workers fear AI could take their job. And a report from AI enterprise platform Writer <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/go.writer.com\/ty-wpi2026?submissionGuid=29aee0bc-4dde-45cf-9509-eab45bfe8107\" href=\"https:\/\/go.writer.com\/ty-wpi2026?submissionGuid=29aee0bc-4dde-45cf-9509-eab45bfe8107\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">found<\/a> that 29% of workers are <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/04\/08\/gen-z-workers-sabotage-ai-rollout-backlash\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/04\/08\/gen-z-workers-sabotage-ai-rollout-backlash\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">actively sabotaging<\/a> their company\u2019s AI strategy, with about one-third of those citing fear of AI for doing so.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Huang versus the doomsayers: Why Nvidia\u2019s CEO believes AI will create jobs<\/p>\n<p>While other business leaders are adamant AI will lead to a wider labor market disruption, the 63-year-old billionaire has remained steadfast in his assertion the technology won\u2019t lead to mass layoffs. In an interview last May, Huang said the technology could actually put <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/05\/29\/billionaire-nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang-ai-replace-jobs-if-technology-not-embraced\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/05\/29\/billionaire-nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang-ai-replace-jobs-if-technology-not-embraced\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">up to 40 million<\/a> people back into the workforce. And in March, the CEO mapped out exactly how AI could transform the technology, predicting <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/19\/jensen-huang-nvidia-ai-agents-future-of-work-autonomous\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/19\/jensen-huang-nvidia-ai-agents-future-of-work-autonomous\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">100 AI agents<\/a> working alongside every human worker.<\/p>\n<p>Huang\u2019s prediction is already playing out in the labor market, according to the Writer report. In the survey, 60% of executives said they\u2019re considering cutting employees who refuse to adopt AI. Moreover, workers using AI are three times as likely to have gotten a promotion and pay raise last year compared to workers dragging their feet on AI adoption.<\/p>\n<p>Still, a recent Anthropic study <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/06\/ai-job-losses-report-anthropic-research-great-recession-for-white-collar-workers\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/06\/ai-job-losses-report-anthropic-research-great-recession-for-white-collar-workers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">argues<\/a> AI is already theoretically capable of performing the majority of tasks associated with white-collar professions, such as law, business, engineering, and management. But Huang explained that while AI automates specific tasks, it doesn\u2019t necessarily eliminate that profession.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour job, the purpose of your job, and the tasks that you do in your job are related but not the same,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>How Nvidia puts AI adoption into practice<\/p>\n<p>Huang shared some insights into how AI adoption looks at Nvidia. He said the most successful employees are those who embrace the tool.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe software engineers who know how to work with AI are the most popular software engineers.\u201d He adds the software engineers are actually busier than ever.<\/p>\n<p>The tech firm is putting its money where its mouth is, according to Huang. In his keynote address at the Nvidia GTC conference in March, the CEO said in order to attract top talent, the company is offering an unusual incentive: <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/17\/jensen-huang-ai-infrastructure-buildout-1-trillion-dollars\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/17\/jensen-huang-ai-infrastructure-buildout-1-trillion-dollars\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI tokens for engineers<\/a>\u2014the fundamental units of data used to process and generate text\u2014worth nearly half their salary.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not just engineers. Huang is seeking AI pros across the board. He said companies are looking for recent college grads with sophisticated AI knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s [an] expert at using AI for marketing or finance or engineering or software engineering, we are looking for expert AI users,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The warnings about AI\u2019s impact on jobs echo from Silicon Valley to Wall Street to Washington, D.C.
