Travelport told the state last month that it is laying off 42 of its 108 local employees.<\/p>\n
The company\u00a0is a marketplace that connects travelers and their agents with hotels, airlines, rental car companies and other travel suppliers.<\/p>\n
Travelport spokesman Philip Pitt said the firm\u2019s adoption of a new artificial intelligence model is behind the cuts. The business\u00a0announced\u00a0in May it was partnering with the AI builder Cognizant to use Anthropic\u2019s Claude AI model to modernize its business.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe proposed model is expected to affect the size and structure of certain Engineering and Technology teams at Travelport,\u201d Pitt said in an email. \u201cDepending on local requirements, some employees may be considered for transfer opportunities, potential employment opportunities with Cognizant, continued employment with Travelport, or for separation,\u201d<\/p>\n
Pitt said the AI changes affect the entire global team.<\/p>\n
The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment told BusinessDen that Travelport\u2019s Denver employees are a mix of hybrid and on-site workers. The business lists its local address as the WeWork inside the Cash Register Building, 1700 Lincoln St.<\/p>\n
Travelport was founded in 1971 and is headquartered in a suburb of London, about 15 minutes from Heathrow Airport. The company reported $339 million in revenue in 2025, up 12% from the year earlier. It operates in more than 160 countries.<\/p>\n
The company brought on John Mangelaars as its new CEO in April. The travel executive previously worked as CEO for fellow online travel marketplace Skyscanner and as a vice president of advertising at Microsoft.<\/p>\n
