{"id":133093,"date":"2026-08-07T16:58:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T16:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/133093\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T16:58:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T16:58:13","slug":"pope-leo-xiv-pays-tribute-to-mozambiques-cardinal-langa-as-shepherd-of-peace-reconciliation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/133093\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope Leo XIV Pays Tribute to Mozambique\u2019s Cardinal Langa as Shepherd of Peace, Reconciliation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cardinal Langa died on Monday, August 3, at Maputo Central Hospital, members of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gcatholic.org\/dioceses\/conference\/074.htm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Episcopal Conference of Mozambique<\/a> (CEM)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1457553546400994&amp;set=a.661540609335629\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> announced<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs he completes his earthly pilgrimage, CEM gives thanks to God for the life and ministry of Cardinal Langa, who dedicated himself faithfully to the service of the Catholic Church in Mozambique, particularly in the Diocese of Xai-Xai,\u201d the Bishops said.<\/p>\n<p>They called on the People of God to \u201cunite in prayer for the eternal repose of his soul,\u201d adding that details of the funeral rites would be communicated later.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Mangunze, Gaza Province, in October 1927, Cardinal Langa was ordained a Priest in June 1957. In 1976, Pope St. Paul VI appointed him the first Bishop of the newly established Diocese of Xai-Xai, a ministry he exercised for more than two decades during Mozambique&#8217;s civil war and the challenging years of social upheaval and pastoral reconstruction.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his episcopal ministry, he promoted the pastoral life of the Diocese while giving particular attention to communities affected by conflict, epidemics, and natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>The late Cardinal also made a significant contribution to the Church&#8217;s evangelizing mission through language.
