Fenix Flexin<\/a> took up most of the oxygen on this week\u2019s episode of \u201cIs this AI or not?<\/a>,\u201d but labelmate Tyga<\/a> pulled his share too. Like \u201cRubberz,\u201d the \u201cRack City\u201d rapper\u2019s latest album, the \u201980s-indebted $tarface, has faced multiple accusations of being at least partially made with artificial intelligence. Not only does Tyga admit the accusations are true, but he is using the current go-to explanation (excuse?) favored by other generative AI-friendly artists: Adapt or die.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never spoken on this with anybody because I always felt like it\u2019s similar to a magician explaining how he does his tricks,\u201d he told Mikey Fresh of Vibe<\/a>. \u201cLike why are people overexplaining how they make shit that\u2019s good? If you like it, you like it; if you don\u2019t, you don\u2019t. I don\u2019t care. It\u2019s supposed to give you an experience and a feeling. But we definitely used AI as a [tool]. And I know people are going to be mad about me saying this, but it\u2019s where technology is going. It\u2019s no different than when Auto-Tune came out. Some people were opposed to it, but real artists took it and used it.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you didn\u2019t love that quote, you won\u2019t love the part where Tyga further explains his recording process: \u201cWe were like, \u2018You know what? I need some \u201880 synths for a certain part of this song. I need a guitar solo done ASAP.\u2019 It is what it is. But as far as the writing, all the vocals are all me.\u201d<\/p>\n
