The information was revealed by The Information, citing people with direct knowledge of the plans.<\/p>\n<p>The company introduced its Maia AI chip in November 2023 but has lagged behind rivals such as Alphabet and Amazon in scaling up production as it seeks to reduce its reliance on Nvidia. Microsoft has been in talks with chipmaker TSMC to secure manufacturing capacity for more than 300,000 units of the chip for delivery in 2027, according to the report. It is also looking to significantly ramp up production and persuade major cloud customers such as Anthropic to adopt the chip.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft ultimately aims to secure capacity for more than 1 million Maia 300 chips. However, component suppliers and ongoing capacity negotiations with TSMC could constrain its plans, according to the new report.<\/p>\n<p>The company unveiled its second-generation Maia 200 in January, built by TSMC using its 3-nanometre process.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft to supply its chips to Anthropic<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has also been in talks to supply its custom artificial intelligence chips to Anthropic. This could be a significant win for Microsoft. The company announced its second-generation Maia AI chip in January but has yet to make it available through its Azure cloud platform. Microsoft did say the Maia 200 processor would run OpenAI\u2019s GPT-5.2 model.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.firstpost.com\/dlxczavtqcctuei\/news18\/static\/images\/fp\/revamp_v1\/tech.svg\" alt=\"tech\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" class=\"nvicsvg\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/>More from Tech<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic has not yet closed a deal with Microsoft over the use of Maia, according to the reports. Historically, Anthropic has relied heavily on graphics processing units from Nvidia to train and run generative AI models. In April, Anthropic said it would use Amazon Web Services\u2019 custom Trainium chips in a 10-year arrangement worth more than $100 billion.
