HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) \u2014 Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont progressive, demanded Monday that AI developers stop work on their models until the companies have a better grasp of the systems.<\/p>\n
Use of them has opened new doors to medical achievements, high workplace productivity levels and creative pursuits, but many Americans remain concerned <\/a>about the risks of empowering models capable of exploiting sensitive information and replacing workers. Sanders, in a letter to the CEOs of OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta, urged the companies to honor their commitments to responsible development of their systems.<\/p>\n “In the interest of humanity, stand by your words. Pause AI development,” Sanders said. “It is not too late to avoid disaster. Stop building machines that humans cannot control.”<\/p>\n The National News Desk requested comment from the companies but hasn\u2019t received any response. Each has defended its models’ safeguards as the executives continue development.<\/p>\n The announcement by pathogen researchers last week of AI-created viruses raised hopes in scientific communities for medical advances, as well as concerns among security experts of potential weaponization. Leaders in various industries have also touted the effect that AI <\/a>has had on employees’ efficiency and creativity, but workers are warning of the loss of jobs that may follow.<\/p>\n
