South Korean AI startup Motif Technologies announced on the 11th that it has officially registered its proprietary large language model (LLM), ‘Motif-2-12.7B’ (hereafter Motif 2), on the Microsoft Marketplace. This enables Microsoft Azure customers worldwide to immediately deploy and utilize Motif’s reasoning-specialized AI model without complex infrastructure setup.<\/p>\n
The Microsoft Marketplace is a global platform where enterprises can search for and adopt trusted cloud solutions and AI applications in an integrated manner. Users can select ‘Motif 2’ within the marketplace and easily access the service by creating an API endpoint on Azure infrastructure. Usage fees are integrated and managed in conjunction with existing Microsoft contracts and purchasing procedures.<\/p>\n
The newly registered Motif 2 is an LLM based on 12.7 billion parameters, built entirely from scratch by Motif Technologies\u2014from model construction to data training. The model specializes in complex tasks requiring clear thought processes, such as solving advanced mathematical problems, competition-level coding, logical reasoning, instruction following, and tool use by AI agents.<\/p>\n
Motif 2 first demonstrated its technical prowess immediately after its open-source release on Hugging Face last November, ranking first among South Korean models on the ‘AAII (Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index),’ a comprehensive performance metric from global AI evaluation body Artificial Analysis.<\/p>\n
Motif Technologies is not resting on its laurels and is accelerating the development of next-generation models. The successor model, ‘Motif 3,’ is a large-scale foundation model with 314 billion parameters, currently submitted for the second round of review under the South Korean government’s ‘Independent AI Foundation Model’ project. A beta version of Motif 3, unveiled at the end of July, showcased its global competitiveness once again by achieving a joint 11th place globally and a joint 3rd place among open-source models in the AAII evaluation. The company plans to release a technical report and the final model as open source in line with the government project review results.<\/p>\n
Lim Jung-hwan, CEO of Motif Technologies, stated, “This registration on the Microsoft Marketplace is significant as it establishes a foundation for a domestically developed proprietary AI model to expand its global customer touchpoints.” He added, “We will continue to introduce even better models and services so that companies worldwide can utilize AI more easily and safely.”<\/p>\n
Microsoft also expressed anticipation for the collaboration. Cyril Belikoff, Vice President of Microsoft Azure Product Marketing, said, “The Microsoft Marketplace helps organizations and partners more easily find and leverage the right solutions. We are pleased that Motif 2 is joining the Microsoft Marketplace ecosystem.”<\/p>\n
This marketplace registration is interpreted as a starting signal for Motif Technologies to move beyond simply releasing open-source models and to actively pursue tangible monetization and global enterprise customer acquisition based on Microsoft’s vast cloud ecosystem. Companies burdened by complex AI infrastructure setup can now rapidly integrate Motif’s reasoning-specialized AI into their business through Azure’s managed services.
