Singapore sovereign fund GIC and Australia\u2019s Macquarie Asset Management have teamed with Claude chatbot maker Anthropic to establish a US-focused data centre platform, as the artificial intelligence boom fuels demand for purpose-built computing capacity.<\/p>\n
The venture, called Theseus Infrastructure, will develop, operate and lease facilities to Anthropic under long-term agreements, the companies said Monday in a release<\/a>. Funds managed by GIC and Macquarie will own the platform and provide most of the equity for each project.<\/p>\n The tie-up extends GIC\u2019s relationship with Anthropic after the sovereign giant co-led the AI firm\u2019s $65 billion Series H funding round<\/a> in May, and comes three weeks after Macquarie completed its $40 billion sale of Aligned Data Centers<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cDemand for Claude continues to grow rapidly across businesses, developers, and consumers, and meeting that demand requires significant new compute,\u201d the companies said.<\/p>\n Claude Capacity<\/p>\n The partners will jointly identify sites in the US, with Anthropic serving as anchor tenant at facilities tailored to its computing requirements. The San Francisco-based company will also cover electricity price increases that consumers might otherwise face as a result of the projects.<\/p>\n Macquarie Asset Management head Ben Way (Image: Macquarie)<\/p>\n The announcement disclosed no investment target, planned capacity, development schedule or ownership split between Macquarie and GIC. The structure combines the two investors\u2019 infrastructure capital with long-term demand from one of the world\u2019s leading AI companies.<\/p>\n Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees including siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, who serve as chief executive and president, respectively. The public benefit corporation introduced Claude in March 2023<\/a> as an AI assistant designed for conversational and text-processing tasks.<\/p>\n The Claude product family has since expanded to include the Claude Code programming agent and Cowork workplace tool, with Anthropic making its models available through Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. The company said in May that annualised revenue had crossed $47 billion.<\/p>\n GIC made a significant investment in Anthropic\u2019s $13 billion Series F round in September 2025 before leading a $30 billion Series G<\/a> alongside US fund manager Coatue in February at a $380 billion post-money valuation. The sovereign fund followed as a co-lead of May\u2019s Series H, which valued Anthropic at $965 billion.<\/p>\n GIC also backed an AI services company<\/a> established by Anthropic, Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman and Goldman Sachs in May to deploy Claude across mid-sized businesses. Theseus extends the relationship from corporate investment and AI distribution into the physical infrastructure supporting Anthropic\u2019s models.<\/p>\n Digital Reload<\/p>\n GIC\u2019s existing US data centre exposure includes a $15 billion-plus venture<\/a> formed with Canada\u2019s CPPIB and Equinix in 2024. The platform aims to add more than 1.5 gigawatts of hyperscale capacity, with GIC and CPPIB each holding 37.5 percent stakes.<\/p>\n The $936 billion Singaporean fund has also committed capital to Vantage Data Centers\u2019 European and Asian platforms and formed a $329 million Brazilian venture<\/a> with Alianza. Last year, GIC and Abu Dhabi\u2019s ADIA backed a $1.6 billion investment in Vantage\u2019s APAC business<\/a>, including the purchase of a 300-megawatt Johor campus.<\/p>\n Macquarie in March teamed with Korean cloud specialist Gabia on a $420 million platform<\/a> targeting more than 100MW of capacity. The venture\u2019s first project is a 40MW facility in Ansan, south of Seoul.<\/p>\n In the US, Macquarie last year agreed to provide up to $5 billion in funding<\/a> for Applied Digital\u2019s high-performance computing pipeline. The programme includes support for the 400MW Ellendale campus in North Dakota and potential investment in more than 2GW of projects.<\/p>\n The Aussie manager\u2019s latest build-up follows two of the sector\u2019s biggest exits.
