Be it Elon Musk or OpenAI’s Sam Altman, many believe that AI may soon do everything humans do today. But what happens then? What will humans do? That is the question which Indian industrialist Harsh Goenka is asking.

On X, Goenka outlined the future that many tech experts think will happen. One where robots do all the physical work, while AI reaches the state of artificial general intelligence, or AGI, a state where it can think like humans. “We’re entering a world where humanoid robots can replace physical labour, and AGI can replace knowledge work. Agents will build businesses. LLMs will build apps. AI will build AI. All in seconds,” he wrote.

Harsh Goenka wondered what will be left for us humans to do if this really is our future. “What will we do all day? Think about it,” he said.

Harsh Goenka shared his views on X.

Goenka’s comments come at a time when AI is increasingly taking over tasks that earlier depended on humans. The concern has grown with major companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta already laying off thousands of workers. In Amazon’s case, the company is reportedly planning to cut over 1,60,000 jobs by 2027 with robots.

Internet asks who will pay for AI if it takes all jobs

Following the post, many users shared their opinions on this possibility. One user pointed out that if humans were no longer working, it may be difficult for a company to earn money from its AI tools. The user wrote, “And if we won’t do anything, how will anyone pay for AI services? Or the data centre operational costs?”

One user questioned how AI companies would actually make money in this scenario.

Another person claimed that an industrialist like Harsh Goenka may be less impacted by AI compared to the majority of Indians. “You have money and will survive or make the AI bot run some part of the business operation. Think what it would do to a majority of our 140 crore population,” they wrote.

Some thought that the impact would impact the general Indian population more than business leaders like Goenka.

One user claimed that humanity was getting closer to making films like The Terminator and The Matrix a reality. The user replied, “Human beings will be busy surviving against the machines ultimately. Already this future has been well imagined and duly shown in the movies.”

We may see sci-fi movies turned into reality, one user says.

What are tech leaders saying about AI?

Goenka is not the only one who thinks this may soon be the reality. Tech trillionaire Elon Musk has often mentioned that AI and robots will take all jobs, freeing humans to do things they like, such as growing vegetables. “AI and robots will replace all jobs,” Musk said on X last year. “Working will be optional, like growing your own vegetables, instead of buying them from the store.”

But in Musk’s prediction, humans will not need to worry about money or resources. Instead, he says we will all have “universal high income.”

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disagrees with how AI may impact the workforce. Recently, Zuckerberg claimed that, in fact, AI may help create more jobs than we have today. The Meta chief insisted that while “company sizes may shrink… it implies a larger number of companies with fewer people each.”

In May this year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman accepted that the impact of AI on jobs may be less than the doomsday some had predicted. “I don’t think we’re going to have the kind of jobs apocalypse that some of the companies in our space advocate or talk about,” he said.

– Ends

Published By:

Armaan Agarwal

Published On:

Aug 12, 2026 14:06 IST

AI will take over everything, this is a phrase you may have heard in recent months.
