Now there\u2019s a new hard metric to quantify the impact of that push.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c1B+ people are now using @Geminiapp every month to spark new ideas and get things done,\u201d\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sundarpichai\/status\/2087222656819241292\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">proclaimed Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai<\/a>\u00a0yesterday. \u201cIt\u2019s our fastest growing product ever, and our 14th to hit the 1B-user mark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suffice to say Google is pulling out all the stops to get Gemini in front of people, against competition from OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT, Anthropic\u2019s Claude and other AI tools and assistants. The 1bn figure is up from 750 million monthly active users in February this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some extra stats,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/newsfromgoogle\/status\/2087233951031009665\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">provided by Google in another tweet<\/a>: 63% of users talk to Gemini out loud, and people are using it to generate more than 150 million photos every day. Google did not share any music stats, having\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/2026\/02\/18\/google-adds-lyria-3-ai-music-model-to-its-gemini-app\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">added its Lyria 3 AI-music model to Gemini in February this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google did say that more than 100 million people are using Gemini on iOS (Apple) devices, and there is some related news to that today\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sensortower.com\/blog\/q2-2026-digital-market-index-report\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">from research firm Sensor Tower<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It estimates that Generative AI apps\u2019 revenue from in-app purchases grew by 108% year-on-year in Q2 2026. That\u2019s $2.38bn of spending, 60% of which ($1.4bn) went to ChatGPT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s now the second biggest app for in-app purchase revenues, behind only TikTok, with Claude having zoomed up from 44th to 10th in those rankings.
