Ryan said Aravind’s father called police looking for a well-being check on his family at their home on Martha Lane around 6:30 p.m. because he wasn’t able to reach anyone there. Ryan said a tutor came by for a scheduled appointment earlier in the day and no one answered the door.<\/p>\n
The mother was last seen by her husband when he went to work around 7 a.m. The 14-year-old was seen at a recreation center Tuesday morning and came home around noon. Ryan said the mother and son were killed sometime “in that fairly large window.”<\/p>\n
When officers went into the house Tuesday evening, Siddharth Aravind was found dead on the first floor and his mother was discovered dead in the basement. The district attorney said both were “suffering from obvious trauma” but the official cause of death is not yet known. They’re also still looking into what type of weapon or weapons were used.<\/p>\n
Ryan said Arjun Aravind drove off in his mother’s car, a Honda Accord. It was found early Wednesday morning in a parking lot in Wayland after police responded to a business alarm.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Arjun was inside that car. He was taken into custody by police without incident,” Ryan told reporters at a news conference\u00a0 Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
He’s now facing several charges, including two counts of murder, assault and battery and stealing a car. He was arraigned on some charges including motor vehicle theft Wednesday afternoon in Lowell Juvenile Court. Aravind will be arraigned on the other charges Thursday in Concord District Court.<\/p>\n
“Concerning behavior”<\/p>\n
There’s no word yet on a motive, but Ryan said “Arjun had been recently demonstrating some concerning behavior, including using the internet and ChatGPT to make searches for theoretical ideas or fantasy stories regarding the killing of his family.”<\/p>\n
Acton Police Chief Doug Sturniolo said Arjun Aravind was known to them because he ran away at one point last year.<\/p>\n
“This is an unspeakable tragedy. It is an incredibly dark day. Obviously an insurmountable tragedy for the dad in this case. It is a very dark day for this community, for this school system,” Ryan said. “We are at the beginning of a very dark and long process.”<\/p>\n

“Incredibly sad and it’s unsettling”<\/p>\n
A man who lives near the home on Martha Lane said police knocked on his door around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday asking if he had seen anything.<\/p>\n
“Just out of curiosity I peeked out of my office door and there was a fire truck, an ambulance, cruisers and there were police officers walking up and down the street obviously looking for someone or something,” the neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told reporters Wednesday.<\/p>\n
“I never had the chance to meet them,” he said of the family. “It’s tragic and it makes you sick.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Incredibly sad and it’s unsettling that this all happened like right down the street,” said neighbor Devon Rippe. “I’ve never seen any sort of presence like that, any sort of urgency, the gurneys and the tape. I was just like, ‘Oh my God.'”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Acton, Massachusetts is about 30 miles northwest of Boston.<\/p>\n
