Anthropic<\/a> is in talks to acquire Decart AI<\/a>, a startup that makes chips work more efficiently to reduce the cost of training and operating artificial intelligence, for $6 billion, Bloomberg reported<\/a> Thursday (Aug. 13), citing unnamed sources.<\/p>\n

The deal would be Anthropic\u2019s largest known acquisition and would help the company\u2019s computing infrastructure keep up with the surging adoption of the firm\u2019s software, according to the report.<\/p>\n

Decart also builds world models that are designed to simulate the physical world and help businesses with applications such as autonomous driving and eCommerce. In eCommerce applications, the company\u2019s Lucy AI model is used to enable customers to virtually try on apparel and accessories, per the report.<\/p>\n

The talks on a potential acquisition are ongoing, and the deal could fall through, the report said.<\/p>\n

Neither Anthropic nor Decart immediately replied to PYMNTS\u2019 request for comment.<\/p>\n

Decart emerged from stealth with $21 million in seed funding<\/a> in October 2024, describing itself as \u201can efficiency-focused AI research lab.\u201d<\/p>\n

Decart then raised $32 million in a Series A<\/a> round announced in December 2024, and $300 million in a Series B<\/a> round announced in May.<\/p>\n

When announcing its Series B in May, Decart described its product lines as DOS, an inference and training stack that enables agents and reasoning models to run smarter and faster; Lucy, a world model for immersive experiences; and Oasis, a world model for physical AI.<\/p>\n

Decart CEO and Co-Founder Dean Leitersdorf<\/a> said in a May press release that world models move AI from the virtual world to the physical world.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce systems can understand and operate within the physical world, the range of what becomes possible expands dramatically \u2014 from robotics and autonomous systems to entirely new forms of commerce and live experience,\u201d Leitersdorf said. \u201cThe most immediate test is what happens when you put it in front of a game designer, an advertiser or an engineer building a robot \u2014 and watch what they reach for.\u201d<\/p>\n
