Data and artificial intelligence (AI) company Databricks<\/a>\u00a0raised $5 billion in a strategic funding round at a $190 billion valuation, the firm said in\u00a0a Thursday\u00a0(Aug. 13)\u00a0press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new valuation is up from the $134 billion at which it was valued in a February\u00a0funding round<\/a>\u00a0and the $62 billion at which it was valued in\u00a0a January\u00a02025\u00a0funding round<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Databricks will use the new funding to support continued development of its serverless Postgres database for AI agents,\u00a0Lakebase<\/a>; its AI coworker,\u00a0Genie<\/a>; and its gateway for multi-AI governance and cost controls,\u00a0Unity AI Gateway<\/a>, according to the Thursday press release.<\/p>\n

Together, these solutions deliver the foundation, context, smart routing and cost controls companies need to deploy AI agents, the release said.<\/p>\n

Databricks also announced Thursday that it has surpassed a $7 billion revenue run-rate and that it delivered 80% year-over-year growth in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Databricks Co-Founder and CEO Ali Ghodsi<\/a>\u00a0said in the release that enterprises want AI agents working across their business and that Databricks offers the foundation they need.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tremendous investor demand for this round shows that our AI strategy is winning the market and building what every business needs to maximize their impact with agents,\u201d Ghodsi said.<\/p>\n

Databricks\u2019 latest funding round was led by\u00a0Coatue<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Coatue Co-Founder Thomas Laffont<\/a>\u00a0said in the release: \u201cDatabricks has spent a\u00a0decade being\u00a0early to where AI was headed. Now it\u2019s the infrastructure the industry builds and scales on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Databricks said in a July 16 press release that it was raising a round of\u00a0strategic funding<\/a>\u00a0at a $188 billion valuation and that it expected the round to close by the end of summer.<\/p>\n

The company said at the time that in addition to investing in its products, it would use the new capital to support future AI acquisitions and deepen AI research.<\/p>\n

Databricks announced July 23 that it expanded its decade-long partnership with\u00a0Microsoft<\/a>\u00a0through the 2030s to scale\u00a0enterprise AI<\/a>.
