{"id":14005,"date":"2026-04-23T12:12:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T12:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/14005\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T12:12:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T12:12:15","slug":"google-says-three-quarters-of-all-coding-is-now-done-by-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/14005\/","title":{"rendered":"Google says three quarters of all coding is now done by AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img alt=\"A Google logo with a banana hangs at the launch of the new Google AI Center Berlin on 5 March, 2026 in Berlin, Germany (Sean Gallup\/Getty Images)\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/79a10240f7a9814448c40af24d5da7f3.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A Google logo with a banana hangs at the launch of the new Google AI Center Berlin on 5 March, 2026 in Berlin, Germany (Sean Gallup\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Most new computer code at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/google\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Google;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Google<\/a> is now created by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/artificial-intelligence\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">artificial intelligence<\/a>, according to the company\u2019s chief executive.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/11PBno-cJ1g\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Google Cloud Next 2026 conference;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Google Cloud Next 2026 conference<\/a> in Las Vegas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/sundar-pichai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Sundar Pichai;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Sundar Pichai<\/a> revealed that nearly 75 per cent of code is AI generated and approved by engineers.<\/p>\n<p>This figure is up from 25 per cent in 2024, and 50 per cent in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been using AI to generate code internally at Google for a while,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now shifting to truly agentic workflows. Our engineers are orchestrating fully autonomous digital task forces, firing off agents, and accomplishing incredible things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Google boss gave an example of how AI agents were able to complete a complex code migration task six-times faster than human engineers.<\/p>\n<p>It follows a broader trend among tech companies to integrate AI into their workflows on a massive scale.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.com\/news\/meta-surveil-staff-teach-ai-155728153.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:report this week;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">report this week<\/a> revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/meta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Meta;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Meta<\/a> is introducing tracking software to capture employees\u2019 mouse movements, clicks and keystrokes in order to train new AI systems to do their work.<\/p>\n<p>An internal memo from the Facebook and Instagram owner described a new set of tools called the Model Capability Initiative (MCI) that aim to replicate how humans interact with computers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vision we are building towards is one where our agents primarily do the work and our role is to direct, review and help them improve,\u201d Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth told employees in a separate memo reported by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Meta is among several major tech firms that are also encouraging employees to use as much AI as possible in their daily work.<\/p>\n<p>Internal leaderboards at Meta and ChatGPT creator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/openai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:OpenAI;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">OpenAI<\/a> reportedly rank employees based on their monthly token consumption \u2013 referring to the amount of AI processing power they use.<\/p>\n<p>This so-called \u201ctokenmaxxing\u201d trend has faced criticism for the financial and environmental cost of such heavy AI useage, as well its actual value as a performance metric.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRanking engineers by token spend is like me ranking my marketing team by who spent the most money,\u201d Christina Cordova, chief operating officer at Linear, wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cjc\/status\/2041299419845599489\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:X;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">X<\/a>. \u201cDon\u2019t mistake a high burn rate for a high success rate.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Google logo with a banana hangs at the launch of the new Google AI Center Berlin on&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":14006,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[24,132,1429,2194,141],"class_list":{"0":"post-14005","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-google","8":"tag-ai","9":"tag-google","10":"tag-google-ai","11":"tag-google-cloud","12":"tag-sundar-pichai"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14005","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=14005"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14005\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/14006"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=14005"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=14005"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=14005"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
