\n\tIndie production giant Fremantle<\/a> today unveiled Art Awakens, the first native AI production from Fremantle\u2019s new AI production label Imaginae Studios<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe short-form educational TV series uses generative AI to take viewers into the inner worlds of history\u2019s most iconic paintings. Over six episodes, the series literally dives into the some of the best-known masterpieces of the past five centuries, from Jan van Eyck\u2019s \u201cThe Arnolfini Portrait\u201d to \u201cWhistler\u2019s Mother\u201d from James McNeill Whistler; from Vincent van Gogh\u2019s \u201cThe Starry Night\u201d to Hokusai\u2019s \u201cThe Great Wave\u201d; and \u201cThe Scream\u201d by Edvard Munch to Edward Hopper\u2019s \u201cNighthawks.\u201d Each episode uses AI technology to animate the original artwork, creating a world inside the painting to explore the emotional and narrative history behind each masterpiece.<\/p>\n

\n\tImagine created the series in collaboration with award-winning Spanish AI filmmaker Hilario Abad.<\/p>\n

\n\tJames Duffen, CEO of Imaginae Studios, said the project shows how generative AI can be \u201capplied with taste, craft and cultural sensitivity\u201d to tell stories \u201cthat were previously impossible\u201d while remaining rooted in artistic craft and cultural integrity.<\/p>\n

\n\tAndrea Scrosati, Group COO & CEO Continental Europe at Fremantle said the series exemplified Imaginae\u2019s goal to give \u201cnew creative talent the space to experiment and the freedom to realize bold ideas using incredible AI tools.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series launches on YouTube today. Fremantle said it will provide further rollout and distribution details in the coming months.<\/p>\n

\n\tFremantle launched the standalone AI label last year<\/a> pledging to \u201cproduce groundbreaking content\u201d with AI tools while \u201cadhering to the strictest intellectual property and compliance standards.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs the producer of some of the world\u2019s most successful television formats, including Got Talent, American Idol, and The X Factor, Fremantle is keen to stress it sees AI as a compliment to traditional TV production, not as a replacement.
