Creators may soon gain a new level of control over AI media, but Google is keeping a quiet layer of identification in place.<\/p>\n
Google is preparing to let users disable the visible watermark on content created with its artificial intelligence models. The changes will apply to images, videos, and music generated by the company\u2019s tools.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Google is not abandoning hidden mechanisms for identifying AI-generated content. Invisible SynthID markings, as well as C2PA-standard metadata, will remain embedded in materials even after the visible mark is disabled.<\/p>\n

Google Vice President for Gemini Josh Woodward said that the new setting will be available for the Nano Banana, Omni, and Lyria models. The feature will first be added to Gemini and the Google Flow video editor, with support for Search planned later.<\/p>\n
Once the update is released, users will be able to go to the \u201cSettings\u201d section, open \u201cMedia watermark,\u201d and choose whether to display visible labeling on the materials they create.<\/p>\n

The company explains that the new approach is intended to give creators more control over using artificial intelligence outputs in creative and professional projects. At the same time, hidden labels and metadata will continue to make it possible to verify the origin of materials.<\/p>\n
Google is also open-sourcing the Credentio library. It is intended to help developers add local verification of digital content provenance to their own applications.<\/p>\n
The update comes amid discussions about labeling materials generated by artificial intelligence. In particular, Anthropic has decided to add watermarks to texts and files created by Claude in order to comply with European Union requirements.<\/p>\n
