Consumer financial services company\u00a0Synchrony<\/a>\u00a0will launch a\u00a0ChatGPT<\/a>\u00a0plugin that will allow consumers to discover savings and offers from the\u00a0Synchrony Marketplace<\/a>\u00a0within\u00a0OpenAI<\/a>\u2019s ChatGPT and browse promotional financing, deals and everyday value from the company\u2019s partners, Synchrony said in a Monday (Aug. 17)\u00a0press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Synchrony\u2019s ChatGPT plugin will be available in OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT\u00a0plugin<\/a>\u00a0directory, according to the release.<\/p>\n

This offering is part of a broader enterprise collaboration that will see Synchrony and OpenAI bring financing, rewards and loyalty into AI-native shopping and checkout experiences and will see Synchrony deploy the latest OpenAI models across its enterprise, the release said.<\/p>\n

Synchrony\u2019s deployment of the latest OpenAI models will support the company\u2019s deeper engagement with advanced capabilities, its product\u00a0development\u00a0and its technology innovation across the enterprise, per the release.<\/p>\n

Maran Nalluswami<\/a>, executive vice president and chief strategy and business development officer at Synchrony, said in the release that the bank aims to help shape how AI-powered commerce evolves.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis collaboration with OpenAI marks a major milestone for Synchrony, our millions of customers and hundreds of thousands of partner locations,\u201d Nalluswami said. \u201cTogether, we aim to ensure the value they\u2019ve entrusted in Synchrony products will thrive in the agentic commerce era.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kaylin Voss<\/a>, vice president of Americas and Industries at OpenAI, said in the release that AI is creating an opportunity to reimagine how customers discover products, pay, earn\u00a0rewards\u00a0and build loyalty.<\/p>\n

\u201cSynchrony is approaching that opportunity from both sides: bringing OpenAI into the experiences it creates for customers and partners, while deploying our most advanced models and tools across its own enterprise,\u201d Voss said. \u201cThat combination can help Synchrony create better, more seamless experiences for customers while giving its teams the tools to move faster and bring new ideas to life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0PYMNTS Intelligence<\/a>\u00a0report \u201cGlobal Digital Shopping Index: The AI-Powered Shopper Has Arrived<\/a>\u201c found that while ChatGPT barely registered as a shopping tool two years ago, it is now one of the top product discovery platforms.<\/p>\n

Thirty percent of shoppers use ChatGPT to search for product information.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis puts ChatGPT in fourth place behind Google search, Walmart and Amazon,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n
