Suno has been sued by all three major music companies, and Anthropic, the company behind Claude, has faced numerous such lawsuits across industries.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tRelated\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/suno-shares-plan-to-limit-ai-song-downloads-details\/\" class=\"c-lazy-image__link lrv-a-unstyle-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/suno-2026-press-suno-billboard-1800.jpg\" alt=\"Suno\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"\" width=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn both cases, Round Hill says the AI firms illegally used more than 500 of its songs, including \u201cIris\u201d by the Goo Goo Dolls, \u201cTotal Eclipse of the Heart\u201d by Bonnie Tyler and \u201cI Got You (I Feel Good)\u201d by James Brown. But it says the cases could later be expanded to thousands more songs, with damages that could \u201cconceivably exceed $1 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201c[Round Hill] brings this action to enforce [its] exclusive rights against defendant Suno, who has built its entire business model on copyright infringement at a scale never seen before,\u201d writes Richard Busch, a veteran music litigator representing the music company in the two cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAI technology uses millions of existing works to \u201ctrain\u201d models how to create new ones. Book authors, newspapers, visual artists, movie studios and record labels have all sued AI labs over the process, claiming it infringes their copyrights. AI companies say they\u2019ve transformed all those works into something new that\u2019s a form of legal fair use. Billions in potential damages and licenses turn on that unresolved legal battle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a statement, Round Hill CEO Josh Gruss stressed that the company is \u201cnot against artificial intelligence\u201d but \u201cagainst the idea that you can build a business worth billions on top of other people\u2019s creative work and pay the creators nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cLicensing isn\u2019t an obstacle to innovation \u2014 it is there to protect the legal owners of the raw material, their property,\u201d Gruss said. \u201cAs an independent music company, we have the freedom and obligation to say that plainly and to act on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tUniversal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment all brought a similar lawsuit against Suno in 2024.
