I\u2019ve always understood the importance of social media to a business, but that doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019ve always enjoyed the process of building a presence. As much as I like writing, I\u2019m not a natural poster. You\u2019ll never catch me voluntarily learning a viral TikTok dance or adjusting my ring light for the optimal selfie. <\/p>\n
I\u2019m lucky to have a great marketing team that makes Jotform\u2019s social presence shine. But for a long time, I treated my own presence on social media as an afterthought, throwing together posts here and there without any clear system or sense of structure. <\/p>\n
The results were about what you\u2019d expect\u2014inconsistent. The problem was I didn\u2019t have time to adopt a better system\u2014until AI entered the picture. Here\u2019s how I\u2019m using LLMs like ChatGPT to take the guesswork out of social media, and maximize my output at the same time. <\/p>\n
Repurposing Effectively<\/p>\n
I may not dedicate a ton of time to social media, but I do write a lot\u2014the words you\u2019re reading being one example. In the days before AI, I treated my columns and my social media posts as two separate projects, and I wasted a lot of time trying to think of punchy, attention-grabbing posts that would amplify my work. <\/p>\n
AI has streamlined the process dramatically. Now, I\u2019m able to feed a finished piece into ChatGPT and ask it to do the heavy lifting. A simple prompt\u2014something like “Extract the five strongest insights from this article and turn each one into a social media post\u201d\u2014typically yields a week’s worth of content in under a minute. <\/p>\n
An important caveat: I never post the output verbatim, because LLMs have yet to truly master human-sounding writing. What it does do is surface an angle I hadn\u2019t thought to lead with, which eliminates the time-consuming paralysis associated with Blank Page Syndrome. With some AI-generated ideas to work with, I’m not starting from scratch anymore. Now I’m simply editing<\/a>, which is much faster. <\/p>\n Generating Topic Ideas<\/p>\n Obviously, you can\u2019t repurpose what you don\u2019t have. And believe me, I understand all too well the feeling of having a rapid deadline approaching with no inspiration in sight. <\/p>\n Now, AI tools regularly help me come up with better, smarter ideas than I would have on my own. When the well is running dry, I try this prompt: <\/p>\n “I write about [topic\/industry] for an audience of [describe audience]. Give me ten post ideas that would genuinely interest them, paying attention to recent trends, counterintuitive takes and unexplored angles in this space.\u201d <\/p>\n Not all of what comes out is a home run, which is exactly why I ask for multiple options. At any given moment, I only need one serviceable idea to get the ball rolling. Sometimes the cure for writer\u2019s block is just having something to react to, and ChatGPT is always there to provide fodder. <\/p>\n
