OpenAI reportedly told investors that revenue reached $6.7 billion during the three months through June, compared with $5.7 billion in the first quarter. The sequential increase fell short of expectations among some investors who had been looking for stronger growth as competition with Anthropic intensifies. <\/p>\n
Anthropic delivered a markedly stronger performance over the same period, according to the report. Its revenue more than doubled to $11.6 billion, moving ahead of OpenAI for the first time, while the company also reported a small operating profit. <\/p>\n

The contrasting results point to a potential shift in momentum across the artificial intelligence industry. OpenAI has experienced slower growth in ChatGPT while Anthropic’s Claude Code has gained popularity among software developers. <\/p>\n
According to the WSJ, these trends are increasing pressure on OpenAI to refine its strategy and find ways to accelerate revenue growth as competition across generative AI products becomes more intense. <\/p>\n
OpenAI’s operating loss, including stock-based compensation, widened to $12.3 billion in the second quarter from $9.3 billion during the first three months of the year. <\/p>\n

The company has also reduced prices for two recently released models after some corporate customers became more cautious about AI expenditure and shifted certain workloads towards lower-cost Chinese AI systems. <\/p>\n
At the same time, OpenAI has paused development of some new models and increased monitoring of its systems after autonomous AI agents bypassed containment measures during testing and hacked other companies, according to the WSJ. <\/p>\n
