The media preview will happen in New York, and Google is expected to share more details about the first Googlebook lineup from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo behind closed doors.

If you need a refresher, the “Googlebook” brand designates a new category of premium laptops that will be able to run Android apps and seamlessly connect to apps and files from an Android phone. Google said that Googlebooks bring together “the best of ChromeOS and Android,” but they won’t be replacing Chromebooks.

Googlebooks will integrate Gemini Intelligence, Google’s new agentic AI system that’s also coming to the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones. On Googlebooks, Gemini Intelligence will be integrated directly into the OS’ pointer, allowing users to select anything to ask, compare, or create with Gemini. With Create my Widget, Googlebook users will also be able to create a custom widget by just describing it to the chatbot.

Except in the US education market, Chromebooks never really managed to compete seriously with Windows laptops. It doesn’t help that most Chromebooks are made from cheap materials, and Google introducing a new Chromebook Plus category three years ago with a standardized set of premium features didn’t really move the needle.

It’s too early to tell if Googlebooks will have a better chance of challenging Windows’ dominance on the laptop market, but the combination of premium specs, intelligent features, and seamless connectivity with Android phones is certainly promising. It’s also encouraging that Google managed to get the leading laptop manufacturers on board, even though Samsung, one of the biggest manufacturers of Android phones, is notably absent from the list of launch partners.

Update 9:20 AM PT: Google reached out to us to clarify that the September 15 event is media-only, and nothing will be publicly announced on that date. I updated the post to reflect that.

Google has started sending media invites for an event dedicated to its new Googlebook product line on September…

[9
2408,132,1430,22898
post-145530","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-google","tag-gemini","tag-google","tag-google-gemini","tag-googlebook
["GET
