Google announced some student-focused Gemini and Search updates<\/a> yesterday, as well as a generous Back to School offer<\/a>: Students around the world will be able to claim one free year of a premium Google AI plan to make the most of the company\u2019s Gemini chatbot.<\/p>\n

In the US, eligible students can get one free year of Google AI Pro<\/a> ($19.99\/month), which includes 5 TB of cloud storage, Gemini in Google Workspace apps such as Gmail and Google Docs, expanded access to Google\u2019s advanced AI models, and Google Health Premium. Outside of the US, eligible college students can claim one free year of the entry-level Google AI Plus plan, which includes 400 GB of storage, 2x higher usage limits in Gemini, access to the multimodal Gemini Omni model, and Gemini features in Google Workspace apps.<\/p>\n

To help students get started with Gemini, Google also launched a new hub in the app that highlights Study notebooks, interactive visualizations, and other learning tools designed specifically for students. The company is also rolling out Deep Research in Gemini Live, which will allow students to explore educational topics conversationally and ask the chatbot to create multi-step research reports.<\/p>\n

To create personalized lessons with progress tracking tools, Google introduced new Study notebooks<\/a> in its Gemini app in June. \u201cIn the coming weeks, study notebooks will be even more helpful with graphs and images as part of your lessons. And so you never miss a deadline, Gemini will even schedule your key dates (like exams and assignment due dates) in Google Calendar from your syllabus \u2014 with your permission,\u201d Google explained yesterday.<\/p>\n

Lastly, Google is also rolling out new educational tools in both the AI Overviews and AI Mode features of its Search engine.
