Jeff Dean, longtime computing pioneer at Google, has spoken publicly for the first time since departing the company, expressing strong faith in the direction of the company’s Gemini artificial intelligence models while explaining his move to launch a four-person startup. Dean’s resignation sent shockwaves through Wall Street, causing Alphabet shares to tumble 3.9% and erasing nearly $190 billion in market capitalisation in a single day.

Jeff Dean gets emotional while talking about his 27-year tenure

Addressing an audience at Stanford University during an event on August 7 (as per Business Insider), Dean grew visibly emotional when discussing his choice to step away from the tech giant after more than 27 years. In video footage released on August 18, Dean offered a thumbs-up gesture while holding back tears.“I don’t attribute things in the stock market to any particular events because it’s always hard,” he said of Google losing $200 billion in a day. Alphabet reportedly closed down 3.9%, giving up roughly $190 billion of market value, after Jeff Dean and three colleagues resigned to found Discovery Loop.“You know I think first I have incredible fondness for my time at Google. I’ve been there for 27 years. Amazing colleagues. So they’re in good shape. They have a plan for making the Gemini models awesome. It’s gonna be great,” he said while talking about Gemini innovation.Dean established a landmark reputation throughout his near three-decade run at Google by heading several of the firm’s most critical technical initiatives.

Dean highlights power of small teams in modern AI era

During the discussion, Dean highlighted why smaller organisations are now uniquely positioned to drive rapid breakthroughs. Rather than needing massive corporate machinery, Dean pointed out that early-stage teams have a common focus.“I’m excited to go off and do this. I think it’s going to be really, really fun. Sometimes a focused small company with everyone focused on exactly that mission. And I think it’s a great mission. It’s going to be amazing,” he noted.Dean quit Google to build his own AI startup called Discovery Loop which is backed by Google.

Jeff Dean, Google’s 30th employee and chief scientist, left after 27 years to lead AI startup Discovery Loop.…

[9
6345,65298,2408,71831,132,1430,16884
post-146042","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-google","tag-ai-startup","tag-discovery-loop","tag-gemini","tag-gemini-artificial-intelligence","tag-google","tag-google-gemini","tag-jeff-dean
["GET
