{"id":146072,"date":"2026-08-20T11:59:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T11:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/146072\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T11:59:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T11:59:15","slug":"the-agentic-era-demands-a-unified-architecture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/146072\/","title":{"rendered":"The Agentic Era Demands a Unified Architecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my conversations with CEOs and technology leaders in Mexico, there is one question I hear with increasing frequency: \u201cHow do we integrate artificial intelligence into the heart of our business in a way that is secure, scalable, and delivers real impact?\u201d Just a year ago, many wanted to understand what artificial intelligence could do. Today, the conversation has taken a strategic turn.<\/p>\n<p>This shift marks the beginning of a new era, as we leave the chatbot era behind and enter the era of agents: systems capable not only of answering questions, but also of planning, executing tasks, interacting with other systems, and supporting entire business processes.<\/p>\n<p>The data shows that this transition is already underway. Our study on the ROI of Artificial Intelligence in Mexico reveals that half (50%) of Mexican companies are already using AI agents in their operations. At the same time, the Work In Progress report shows that two out of three professionals (67%) rely on personal AI tools in their day-to-day work, even though only one-third have official corporate access and clear guidelines. However, when adoption happens through individual initiative rather than as part of an organizational strategy, companies gain efficiency while increasing their exposure to security, governance, and technology fragmentation risks.<\/p>\n<p>For decades, we designed enterprise infrastructure around people accessing systems, entering information, and executing processes. The agentic era changes that logic. Now, agents will also be accessing data, interacting across applications, and executing tasks autonomously. This new reality requires a different architecture.<\/p>\n<p>What is most interesting is that this evolution is already reflected in real-world examples from companies operating in Mexico. A clear example is Yalo, a leading conversational commerce platform that, together with Google Cloud, is transforming how brands interact with their customers. Through messaging channels such as WhatsApp, Yalo deploys AI agents designed to manage complex business workflows from end to end. Their capabilities range from advising consumers about products using natural language and processing orders in real time, to resolving post-sale support inquiries without losing context. Beyond the efficiency gains of the use case itself, what matters is the paradigm shift it represents: AI agents have become active engines of business execution and revenue generation. This is where the technology conversation changes completely.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, many organizations are still trying to build these capabilities by connecting independent technologies from different providers: a large language model on one side, infrastructure on another, and a security layer added at the end. This approach ultimately creates what I like to call an \u201cintegration tax.\u201d Technology teams spend more and more time connecting systems that were never designed to work together, rather than focusing on creating value for the business. The result is often greater complexity, hidden costs, latency, and new risk surfaces.<\/p>\n<p>That is why I believe the conversation around artificial intelligence should no longer focus solely on which model is the most advanced. The dialogue should instead center on a different question: Is our technology architecture ready for hundreds or thousands of agents to work reliably within our company?<\/p>\n<p>Answering that question means thinking about infrastructure differently. Agents need the computing power to operate at scale, secure access to trusted data, and security mechanisms built in from the outset\u2014not added as an afterthought. Architecture is no longer simply a technical component; it has become a strategic enabler of the business.<\/p>\n<p>That said, a unified architecture does not mean a closed architecture. Innovation in artificial intelligence depends on openness and on having the ability to choose the technology best suited to each need. Organizations must be able to combine proprietary and open-source models, integrate solutions from different providers, and connect AI to the enterprise platforms they already use. At Google Cloud, we believe this balance between integration and openness will be key to helping companies innovate faster without sacrificing flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>The agentic era has already begun. The next competitive advantage will come from having an architecture capable of turning that technology into action.
