One posting is for a Canadian <a href=\"https:\/\/job-boards.greenhouse.io\/anthropic\/jobs\/5385546008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">compute lead<\/a> to manage the company\u2019s data centre build-out strategy in the country, while another posting is looking for a <a href=\"https:\/\/job-boards.greenhouse.io\/anthropic\/jobs\/5391974008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">data centre community engagement manager<\/a> based in Alberta.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anthropic confirmed the job postings to BetaKit, but did not elaborate on its Canadian data centre strategy or why it\u2019s specifically targeting Alberta.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the source: The compute country lead \u201cwill be ultimately responsible for bringing gigawatts of compute online in Canada,\u201d according to the job posting. The position is responsible for selecting, leasing, and financing data centre sites, as well as other logistical and government relations work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the community engagement manager will \u201ccoordinate charitable giving, community investment, and economic development commitments\u201d in their data centre markets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The context: The postings show Anthropic continuing to add to its Canadian roster after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/jacobglick_aipolicy-activity-7493091200980107265-cjgM?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAACQRsLYBYtACiht1SZCp1z_yZhpuZgCPdLk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">hiring<\/a> Amazon\u2019s former head of Canadian public policy, Jacob Glick, in the same role earlier this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anthropic is joining <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/microsoft-to-spend-7-5-billion-on-ai-data-centre-expansion-with-pledge-to-protect-canadas-digital-sovereignty\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">multiple<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/stay-tuned-openai-teases-canadian-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">AI companies<\/a> looking to strengthen its much-needed compute capabilities in Canada. Alberta has <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/albertas-technology-minister-continues-data-centre-courtship-at-digital-innovation-forum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">positioned itself<\/a> as a friendly jurisdiction for that upcoming buildout. Last month, Meta announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/meta-to-build-canadas-largest-data-centre-north-of-edmonton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">$13-billion investment<\/a> to build Canada\u2019s largest data centre northeast of Edmonton.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Final thought: AI companies are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/inside-big-techs-frantic-race-to-quell-the-growing-backlash-to-ai-2a717339?st=A8BWxu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">increasingly<\/a> finding a need for community engagement managers as communities <a href=\"https:\/\/betakit.com\/has-the-ai-techlash-reached-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">push back<\/a> on data centres. Angus Reid Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/angusreid.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2026.06.01_AI_Policy_data_centres.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">polling shows<\/a> more than two-thirds of Canadians oppose having data centres built near where they live.
