{"id":146569,"date":"2026-08-20T20:16:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T20:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/146569\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T20:16:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T20:16:11","slug":"anthropic-plans-to-tweak-data-retention-after-enterprise-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/146569\/","title":{"rendered":"Anthropic Plans to Tweak Data Retention After Enterprise Concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anthropic.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anthropic<\/a> plans to modify the data retention policy it announced in June, Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-08-20\/anthropic-plans-to-change-data-retention-policy-for-advanced-ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> Thursday (Aug. 20), citing an unnamed source.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The AI startup will still require enterprise customers that use its most advanced artificial intelligence models to retain data for 30 days, but it will allow them to do so on their own cloud computing infrastructure, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthropic plans to roll out this new system later this year. It has been working with customers in highly regulated industries for months to develop the option, per the report.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthropic did not immediately reply to PYMNTS\u2019 request for comment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthropic announced June 9 that it introduced a new 30-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/artificial-intelligence\/2026\/anthropic-30-day-data-policy-exposes-enterprise-ai-governance-gaps\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data retention policy<\/a> for its Claude Fable 5 and other models with similar or higher levels of capability. The company said that the policy applies to both first- and third-party surfaces and that it will ensure the data\u2019s deletion after 30 days in \u201calmost all cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company said in its June 9 announcement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anthropic.com\/news\/claude-fable-5-mythos-5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data retention policy<\/a>: \u201cThe data will help us defend against complex and novel attacks (including new jailbreaks and attacks that operate across many requests) as well as help us identify and reduce false positives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was reported on the following day, June 10, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a> was limiting employees\u2019 use of Claude Fable 5 while its legal teams evaluate the changes to Anthropic\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/artificial-intelligence\/2026\/microsoft-balks-at-anthropics-claude-fable-5-data-retention-policy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data retention<\/a> requirements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report said Anthropic\u2019s data retention policy includes retaining prompts and outputs for up to two years if they are flagged by Anthropic\u2019s trust and safety classifiers as violating the company\u2019s usage policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PYMNTS reported June 11 that a question emerging in C-suite and chief financial officers\u2019 offices was: \u201cWhat exactly happens to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/artificial-intelligence\/2026\/anthropic-30-day-data-policy-exposes-enterprise-ai-governance-gaps\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data<\/a> flowing through enterprise AI systems, how long is it retained, and what liabilities does that create?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OpenAI announced Wednesday (Aug. 19) that it is testing Private Safety Processing, a <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/offering-zero-data-retention-for-frontier-models\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">safety system<\/a> that identifies serious safety risks that may only become visible across multiple interactions, while continuing to offer Zero Data Retention for eligible API customers.
