a one-year moratorium on data centers back in May<\/a>.<\/p>\nNow, the sentiment from residents hasn\u2019t changed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m personally not in favor of it, and I haven\u2019t talked to a single person that is in favor of it,\u201d said resident Justin Pierce. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not just like a mildly not in favor; people are furious about it. I mean, nobody around here is interested in it and having it around here.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cNot that I think there\u2019s anything good about data centers, but I didn\u2019t see just the mention of a data center in that opportunity zone being that alarming,\u201d said Camdenton\u2019s mayor, John McNabb. \u201cBut obviously the citizens did, and they\u2019ve spoken, and I\u2019ve heard them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meetings and discussions have been held to determine the city\u2019s next steps.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve directed the members of Planning and Zoning to do their research. Our attorney is also researching the best way to write an ordinance, what kind of restrictions we want,\u201d said Mayor McNabb. \u201cThe public will definitely be involved once we get to the point where we\u2019re comfortable with an ordinance that we want to present to the public.\u201d <\/p>\n
Local resident Justin Pierce says that residents aren\u2019t interested in regulating a potential data center.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the people that I\u2019ve talked to, I can\u2019t imagine that there would be anything that people would be in favor of, any sort of regulation at all,\u201d said Pierce. \u201cIt\u2019s a hard no with everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mayor McNabb says that the citizens\u2019 concerns and their priorities haven\u2019t changed since the May meeting. They still want to protect and preserve the wildlife and nature around Camdenton. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe people in Camden County don\u2019t always agree with everything. But one thing they agree on is they\u2019re very protective of the lake,\u201d said Mayor McNabb. \u201cAnd they\u2019re not willing to jeopardize anything that might harm the Lake of the Ozarks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Camdenton\u2019s mayor says that he\u2019s unsure if the city will use all 12 months of their moratorium before presenting a data center ordinance. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur number one thing is we want to make sure we get this right,\u201d said Mayor McNabb. \u201cIf it takes six months, eight months, or all 12 months, whatever it is; we want to make sure that we\u2019re really comfortable with what we decide to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
