AWS growth has climbed for five consecutive quarters, from 17% in Q2 2025 to 37% in Q2 2026. This strengthens the argument that AI demand is adding another growth cycle. Amazon’s Q2 fiscal 2026 results filed July 30, 2026 also showed AWS accelerating to $42.23 billion, its fastest pace in 18 quarters. AWS backlog, meanwhile, stood at $496 billion, growing triple digits year-over-year. The company’s AI and Chips businesses also each cleared $25 billion annualized run rates in Q2 with triple-digit growth.

AWS against Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud

AWS’s 37% growth may be the best it has gained in years, but it is still the slowest of the Big Three hyperscalers. Looking at the growth percentages, it seems that AWS is the laggard of the three. However, AWS brings in far more revenue overall. It brought $42.2 billion in revenue last quarter, putting it on a $169 billion annualized run rate. This makes AWS larger in size, and its also adding more actual dollars in revenue than Google Cloud each quarter because of its much larger base.

So Amazon catching up is a question that doesn’t have a clean answer. By growth rate, it’s still behind both, but ahead of both if we look at the dollar figures.

        Valuation and Sentiment

Amazon trades at roughly 22x forward P/E, roughly in line with Microsoft’s forward P/E of 24x and higher than Alphabet Google’s 17x forward P/E. This implies the market is likely pricing in margin expansion from Amazon’s AWS, digital advertising, and margin growth. Rosenblatt further echoes this sentiment, noting how customers increasing AI spending are also increasing core AWS usage, compounding gains.

Q1 2026 saw Amazon’s hedge fund holders dropping from 381 in the prior quarter to 353. However, recent filings show Coatue Management raising its AMZN stake by an estimated 49% in Q2 to 11.83 million shares, and Arrowstreet Capital increasing its position by 24% to 40.35 million shares. These moves suggest how major growth-focused funds have been buying into Amazon’s cloud expansion and AI story.

Overall, AWS is still behind Google Cloud and Microsoft on growth rate.
